    This tour takes you on a walk through the charming medieval city center. Enjoy the view from Lindenhof hill, where the Romans and medieval kings had their castles. Discover hidden corners and quiet squares in the small alleys of the well-preserved old town. See the impressive houses of the crafts guilds that once ruled the city. Zurich's Reformer Huldrych Zwingli was one of the big three of the Protestant movement, next to Calvin and Luther. Explore the transformation of the two ancient churches from catholic to protestant belief and learn more about radical Protestants who lay the foundations of the Baptist denomination but paid a high price for their revolution within the revolution. See massive Romanesque Grossmünster with its beautiful contemporary church windows and its ancient crypt, that hosts a 15th century statue of Carl the Great. Treat your eyes with the colorful painted windows of Fraumünster church, created by famous artist Marc Chagall. Take a close look at the baroque council house and discover symbols of a proud republic of commoners within a mostly aristocratic Europe. Return to the modern-day international banking metropolis at Bahnhofstrasse - one of the most expensive shopping boulevards in the world. Mingle with the people of Zurich on a short streetcar ride and find relaxation at the shores of lake Zurich.

      A great way to get a historical overview of Zürich!

      We were a group of 11, and Monica did a great job of giving us an overview of the foundations of the city and how it developed. Hearing about important revolutions, learning about the different guilds, and seeing the model of old Zürich gave us an interesting perspective on the old ways of life compared to the commercial, financial city of today. Monica was great at answering our questions, and you could feel her passion about the city, its history, and its architecture.

      Wonderful tour! Highly recommended.

      I definitely recommend this for over anything else available! We only had a day to see Zurich and booked this tour to try to get a good overview. Monica took us through almost all of old city. The 2-hour tour showed us what we probably would have taken a full day to figure out on our own. She was amazingly informed and was able to tell us stories of the various buildings and knew the history and interesting facts. She was able to answer all of our questions and explained everything clearly. We went inside certain churches and buildings with her that were incredible and she gave us a short tour through these as well. Monica was also extremely helpful suggesting what to do next and also gave us options and helped us choose a restaurant to eat at at the end of the tour. We considered more expensive boat or bus tours but decided to try this, and are extremely thankful we did. With the walking tour, is we got up close to all of the buildings, art, and history. The best tour of Zurich!

      Informative and Enchanting Tour with a Historian

      Within the span of an hour and a half, Monica was able to weave an enchanting tale about the history of Zurich. As we climbed a hill to view the city center from above and crossed bridges above a glittering, azure lake, I learned so much not only about the city's history, but also its people. Because I also mentioned that I wanted to take pictures, Monica made sure to point out some really picturesque spots and even helped take photos of me. At the end of the tour, she advised me on which Swiss chocolates were best to take home as gifts and also helped me find the right tram number to take back to my hotel. This was truly one of the best walking tours I've joined with a considerate and knowledgeable guide. P.S. Thank you for the Swiss tea! It was lovely. <3
