New York: The Story of Hamilton Small Group Walking Tour

1. New York: The Story of Hamilton Small Group Walking Tour

With the success of the hit musical Hamilton, this tour is to help people understand how an illegitimate immigrant finds his way to New York, remakes himself, and becomes one of the most brilliant, charismatic, and controversial founding fathers! Walk in the footsteps of Alexander Hamilton through New York City’s oldest neighborhood, the financial district, and discover how this famous New Yorker has his fingerprints on nearly every landmark these streets have to offer. The adventure begins at Trinity Church, where Hamilton was buried as a result of one of the darkest days in American political history. Learn how Hamilton arrived in America on the eve of a revolution and quickly became one of the most influential minds of his day, only to be shot dead before his 50th birthday. Stop by Zuccotti Park and uncover how more recent revolutionary movements like Occupy Wall Street trace their roots to Hamilton’s ambitious plans for American prosperity. Next, learn how Hamilton’s role as America’s first Secretary of the Treasury ultimately led to the creation of the New York Stock Exchange. Across the street sits Federal Hall, where Hamilton looked on as George Washington was sworn in as the nation's’ first president and where he served in the first cabinet. Then check out the two Wall Street skyscrapers that still stand as reminders of the epic feud between Hamilton and Burr, one emblazoned with the name of one of our more recent politicians and local celebrities, Donald Trump. Finally, make your way down the first paved street in New York City to one of the oldest bars in town, where Hamilton himself used to drink with George Washington. Along the entire route you will discover not only Hamilton’s history in New York but also how he came to epitomize the American Dream, created the modern world you live in today, inspired many of our wealthy leaders who continue to shape the city and world, and finally, how he wrestled with the questions of wealth, privilege, and power in ways that are just as relevant today as they were in the 1700s.

Lower Manhattan + Midtown Manhattan Tour - Guided Combo Tour

2. Lower Manhattan + Midtown Manhattan Tour - Guided Combo Tour

Your  guide will start by showing you the historical sites that most visitors overlook in Lower Manhattan, including Bowling Green and Castile Clinton in Battery Park. Learn about Alexander Hamilton at Trinity Church before fast-forwarding to the last century, when the Charging Bull took up residence among the NYSE and Federal Hall. Modern architecture soars overhead, once in the shadows of the World Trade Center. Discuss the tragedy of 9/11 while visiting the official memorial as well as the firefighters’ memorial. Then learn how Lower Manhattan has evolved since, including the Occupy Wall Street movement that took over Zuccotti Park. By the end of the tour, you’ll understand more clearly how New York City has become one of the most important and inspiring metropolises in the world. Then after a break for lunch, travel north to Midtown and learn why it's the "City That Never Sleeps". Find out about the 19th and 20th century additions to Manhattan that helped shape the urban landscape. Explore the lesser-known Marble Collegiate Church and then visit icons like the New York Public Library and the Morgan Library. From Madison Square Park to the quirky Flatiron building, you’ll discover the earlier innovations that helped build New York up, quite literally. Your guide will discuss the skyscraper boom of the early 1900s, including the Met Life Tower and the New York Life Building. You’ll walk by the world-famous Empire State Building to learn about the last of the early 20th century giants. It doesn’t get much more beautiful than the main terminal of Grand Central Station, where you’ll learn about the landmark laws that preserve many of these historic buildings for generations to come.

The guided walk offered exciting insights into US history. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and spoke very entertainingly. The tour did not start at the specified meeting point, which initially caused some excitement for me. Still full marks. The tour was great and comes highly recommended.

It is incredibly interesting for everyone who is interested in the Wilhelminian era and Alexander Hamilton, but also for everyone who wants an interesting tour of the oldest part of Manhattan. Alex was very committed and has incredible knowledge!

Good excursion with a very professional guide despite the storm! She was able to make us discover WallStreet differently from conventional visits. The end of the visit with a happy hour cocktail at the Fraunces Tavern was perfect to finish.

The Story of Hamilton was full of facts and stories and information about a part of NYC that was totally new to me. Alex was a great tour guide and shared lots of lesser known facts about the area.

Greg was an excellent tour guide - informative, interesting, and witty
