Know before you go
- Walking:
- In the Tatra National Park (TANAP), walkers must keep to marked footpaths, which helps to prevent erosion and to preserve the environment. Paths are generally of a high standard with chains fitted in places. In the Mala Fatra you walk up narrow canyons where occasionally there are metal walkways, ladders and chains.
- Transport:
- You fly direct to Vienna then take a private coach to Mala Fatra in Slovakia. At the end of the holiday you return the same way or to Prague or Kracow. You will have a private bus to take you between hotels. You might use the Tatran Electric train linking the three high Tatras resorts, funicular railways and chairlifts.
- Timing:
- The best period of year for this tour is from June to the end of September, when weather is pleasant and rain is not common.
- Walks:
- Daily walks vary from 4 to 8 hours with more options every day. Every day you will carry just a day bag. Guides will prepare picnics most of days. Sometimes you will have lunch in mountain huts.
