Our food experience took us to places that we would never have gone on our own. We started with an array of grilled meats and veggies at a yakitori restaurant, which was awesome. Our second stop was a sweets place that served wagashi, a sweet made from red bean paste, filled with mochi (sticky rice)--not our favourite. Then we went a monjayaki restaurant where we had monjayaki and okonomiyaki, foods that we cooked ourselves on grills. We finished with a yummy chocolate filled crepe. Loved it also. The experience would have been improved if our guide had been more descriptive about the foods we were eating, and how they are prepared. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
The nice thing about a tour like this is the company of people that enjoy the same universal thing around the world : good food. Kirir as a guide was enthusiastic, answered all questions and introduced us to yakitori, japanese sweets, okonomiyaki and more, including an extra melon bread at the end. Also the stop at Tsukiyima is a place that for most tourists will not be on the map for a few days in this great city. So : well worth doing this !!!
It was a little hard to find the tour guide at the meeting place but I didn't know the original tour company name. I had purchased my tickets thru a 3rd party. It was a great experience. The price included everything. It was just enough food and just enough walking (9,000 steps) Our guide was very social/nice/polite and answered all my questions. It was great to be with someone who knew the local places to eat.
The food introduced was delicious. Throughout the tour, our guide was attentive to everyone's needs. We were given interesting information on the places we visited, the Japanese culture and the food. Best of all, it doesn't feel like a tour, it's more like having dinner out with a few new friends.
We couldn't finish the tour because there was too much walking for my husband who is 83. I thought the food stops would be closer together and not involve subway stops with lots of stairs! You should be more explicit on your website. Mackay
