Be picked up from your hotel and head to Setumbu Hill to witness the breathtaking Borobudur sunrise. When the air is fresh and as the mist begins to lift, the sun will surround the volcanoes and terraced fields.

After sunrise, explore the UNESCO-listed Borobudur Temple, the single largest Buddhist structure on earth. Be the first of the day to enter the gates as they open.

After visiting Borobudur, you will travel for 1.5 - 2 hours to Prambanan Temple. Spend 2 hours exploring Prambanan. This temple was built in the tenth century, this is the largest temple compound dedicated to Shiva in Indonesia.

See the three temples decorated with reliefs illustrating the epic of the Ramayana, dedicated to the three great Hindu divinities of Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. You will also see three temples dedicated to the animals who serve them. After finishing exploring Prambanan, you can opt to choose to head back directly to the hotel, or stop for lunch on the journey back.

I didn't know that since Covid, tourists are not allowed to go up in the temples (and yet the price is the same). This takes away a lot of the experience. There is talk about the complexes re-opening in the future, but for a limited number of tourists per day, and at a (much) increased cost. The one advantage of the upper levels being off-limit is that it wasn't crowded at all. Atok, my driver, was very careful in the crazy traffic, and we had some great conversations as we were covering the ±1 hour drive to the sites.

Indra was a perfect guide and driver. He gives you the right amount of details and history that you (me as a prepared Traveller) do not feel overwhelmed. He took me to the look out spot for the sunrise. Unfortunately it was foggy and I was not able to see the Borobudur sunrise. But this is nature, you cannot book it in advance. Nevertheless I had a nice time taking in the tranquility of the place and the sound of the nature awaking. Loved it. We then went to the Prambanan Temple. Indra advised me to take also a look at the further away Hindu temple and the view I got was priceless. Great foto opportunities, and I was lucky to be able to see the rehearsal of a stage play that was scheduled for the evening. I had a great day, had great picture opportunities and got introduced to a new fruit: Salak. Thanks to Indra. I can only recommend his service. He has a great knowledge of history and is a decent and polite person. Thank you Indra, I enjoyed my day with you.

Great tour in one day! if you decided to do this tour without the sunrise and hoping to wakeup at 06 o'clock you're wrong. To be honest is a part of this adventure wake up at 03 o clock am and begin the adventure. the sunrise on the mountain is something spectacular hoping the weather it isn't cloudy and foggy. If it will be clear you could see the prambanan temple near the volcano meanwhile the sun goes up. an experience breathless. after seen the sunrise you will visit the prmabanan temple and after the Borobudur temples, in Borobudur there are four of them, not only one. the cool thing is that the two main temples belong to two different religion: Hinduism and Buddhist, it's incredible in how many years the Indonesian people understand each other even if they practice several religion from decades. The guide was only the transporter but yoni was very kind, smart and open with us. I really appreciate him. I advice this experience if you have few days in Java island. e
