Full description
Escape the busy city of Yerevan and travel into Southern Armenia towards the town of Areni, known for its spectacular history in winemaking and bearing the name of one of the oldest grape varieties in the world. Your first destination will be to one of the region’s best vineyards to enjoy a tour of the winery and learn about the process of making wine. Discover the variety of grapes that are used here and taste some of the oldest wines of Armenia to get a real flavor of the region. Next, enjoy stunning scenic views on the drive towards the next destination, the ‘Wings of Tatev’. The ‘Wings of Tatev’ is the longest cable car in the world, measuring 6 km, and was in the Guinness Book of Records in 2010. Ride the cable car and admire the breathtaking scenery along the way, including the Harsnadzor Watchtower and Devil’s Bridge, as you travel to the 9th Century Tatev monastery, which once was the educational and spiritual center of Armenia. Built on a high plateau in the Vorotan river gorge, the monastery is surrounded by breathtaking mountains and dense forests. Onto Shaki Waterfall next, located in Syunik Province, to marvel at this stunning feat of nature that sits on the left side of the river Vorotan’s gorge. Learn about how basalt lava flows have solidified to form a ledge 18 meters high from which the waterfall cascades down.

Trip was nice and the guide was narrating in both English and Russian. I would have given 5 starts as they did not show us one spot which is included in the tour - Shaki Waterfall. Also, snacks / sweets were not provided which is another thing included in the tour description.

Tatev, Armenia is home to the beautiful 9th century Monastery of Tatev, which also served as a university in the 14th and 15th centuries. All around you can find breathtaking views. Our guide Arevik from Yerani Travel gave a good explanation re the historical background of Tatev monastery. It’s a long day trip but worth it with the stunning Shaki Waterfall and the luscious scenic vineyard as the tour journeyed through the wine region.
