    7. Wieliczka Salt Mine: Guided Tour from Krakow

Book this half-day Wieliczka Salt Mine excursion and a professional, English-speaking driver will drive you straight to the site, where a local guide will take you through the historic underground city. Experience the famous salt mine dating back to medieval times with a history of 9 centuries of salt exploitation. Embark on the tourist route through the mine, located 135 meters underground and only accessible by stairs.

Encounter a unique place to visit that is a must-see during your stay in Krakow. Visiting the Salt Mine is also good for your health on account of its special climate and micro-element-filled air.

Fascinating place. Highly recommend. Amazing what was going on underground, beautiful sculptures and chandeliers. Well organised, yes, there are a lot of steps but not all in one go. The guide was very informative telling us events that happened on each level, we got breaks for a few minutes throughout the tour. It wasn’t possible to be socially distant in the lift up to the surface. Outside there is a kiosk selling drinks and a few souvenirs, there is also a BBQ set up, looked like they were selling sausage sandwiches. We had a little hiccup with the pick up, it was sorted efficiently and quickly so no complaints.

  • Krakow: Wieliczka Salt Mine Skip-the-Line Ticket & Transfers

    10. Krakow: Wieliczka Salt Mine Skip-the-Line Ticket & Transfers

Head underground to explore the Wieliczka Salt Mine and marvel at the salt formations, including the stunning Chapel of St. Kinga. Located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, just outside of Krakow, you will transfer to the mine by air-conditioned vehicle and then begin your descent. Start with a climb downstairs to a depth of 64 meters. You will be led through a number of chambers and shown underground lakes, shrines, and salt monuments. Follow the underground trail through numerous drifts and galleries, where traces of mining activity have been preserved. See examples of sacred art and themed compositions relating to the history of the mine. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is the world's largest mining heritage museum with a collection encompassing unique pieces of mining equipment reflecting the development of mining techniques from the Middle Ages until today.

I really enjoyed the Salt Mine tour itself - it’s definitely worth a visit. The only downside was the transfer from the meeting point and back. We were asked to arrive at 10.30am at the meeting point however once actually getting to the Salt Mines we were then informed our tour wasn’t for another hour so we needed to find something else to do and come back. We were also waiting an hour for the driver to pick us up after the tour had finished. The timings could have been better organised as we wasted 2 hours just waiting around.

Although this trip is approx 10 hours, it really didn’t feel like it. Visiting the two camps is an absolute must when visiting krakow. It’s very harrowing, so sad, thought provoking but essential to ensure nothing like what happened here ever happens again. Visiting the salt mines after the camps was incredible and lifted our mood. Again the time spent here went in very quickly and our group of five absolutely loved it. Chapel chandeliers made from salt are stunning! Our driver collected us from our apartment on time and made sure we met with the tour guides for each attraction. He dropped us back off at the apartment too. I would highly recommend this trip .

It was well organised and everything ran on time. The salt mine was unexpectedly interesting and a welcoming source of positivity after the harrowing stories from Auschwitz. The concentration camp was unsurprisingly emotional and more intense, but still interesting.

Well worth the money, transfer with English speaking driver, who was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Both places are on "must see" list when visiting Krakow.

A little exhausting, long walks, but sensational insights! Absolutely recommended!

Great tour. The driver was excellent and the tour guides were awesome!
