Garden Route National Park: Tsitsikamma Zipline Canopy Tour

1. Garden Route National Park: Tsitsikamma Zipline Canopy Tour

This is a unique eco-wilderness adventure that takes place in the magnificent Tsitsikamma indigenous rainforest. Most of the platforms are located in giant Outeniqua Yellowwood trees. The scenery and bird life is spectacular and professional guides provide interesting facts about the forest ecology during the 2.5 to 3 hours. The concept of guiding people through the upper canopy of a rainforest originated in Costa Rica, where adventurous biologists devised new methods for accessing the forest canopy in order to conduct research on the undiscovered canopy ecosystem. The idea soon developed into a breathtaking form of eco-tourism which allowed people to enter and experience a previously inaccessible natural environment. The tour begins with a detailed safety briefing followed by a kitting up session where full body harness, pulleys, and climbing equipment is issued and checked. A short drive into the Tsitsikamma forest and it is time to monkey around. From the start on the launch platform, a new world unfolds as one gently glides on a steel cable to the first tree platform. All groups are escorted through the forest canopy by a lead guide and a follow guide to ensure your safety as you slide from tree to tree. The platforms are built high up in the giant Outeniqua Yellowwoods and provide an unbelievable view of this enchanting new world, any fear of heights is soon lost as you gather in your new surroundings.

On the drive down the main road and through suburban Ceres, you will get a feel for the lovely town before you arrive at your destination. It's a short walk from the drop-off point to the first line. Here, the fun starts.  The slides vary in length from 100 meters to 291 meters, with the highest point above the ground being 40 meters. Great experience! Guide was awesome, van was comfortable. Did the reverse order starting with the wine tasting and finishing with the kayaking and 4-wheel safari. The wine tasting was lovely, we saw so many elephants in Addo, I loved the kayaking and the short hike to the suspension bridge. Lots of driving which is to be expected in order to cover part of the Garden Route but our guide arranged for comforts stops which made it a great experience. I went solo but had such a great time and our group was wonderful. Would definitely recommend!

The trip was amazing. Everyone was so freindly and kind. The accomodations were so well picked - we were not expecting such beautiful, spacious and clean venues as a backpacker. It was a real treat! Denver our guide was the best guide in the world. He is an amazing person. He made sure to give us the trip we would never forget. Without him the experience would not have been the same! As he would say: "This is Africa..;)"

I had a wonderful week and our guide Maudi from Hotspot2c was just lovely and fun! We saw so many elephants in addo and I always felt welcomed by our hosts. If you are in cape town and want to see more of the Garden Route - it's the thing to book!

The trip was incredibly beautiful and gave me many unforgettable moments! The Garden Route is beautiful and the stops were well chosen. But the best was our tour guide :)

Gerhard was an awesome guide, the group was amazing and the trip was a lot of fun!! Would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the garden route.
