Your adventure begins with pickup from your Hervey Bay accommodation, or make your own way to River Heads. Take a 40-minute ferry ride to Fraser Island, keeping a look out for dolphins, turtles, and other marine life. Once on the island, your local guide will take you to see the stunning natural sights.   Learn fascinating facts about the island’s history, and its fauna and flora. Travel in an air-conditioned bus to Central Station, a former logging station. Then stroll along the Wanggoolba Creek boardwalk to discover the ancient king ferns, towering ghost gums, and pine trees. Continue to Lake McKenzie and swim in the crystal blue waters or relax on the sandy beaches. The next stop is Seventy-Five Mile Beach. Choose to take a flight over the island (at additional cost), or float down Eli Creek. Visit the Maheno shipwreck and enjoy a photo stop at the rusting wreck of the Maheno. You’ll also see The Pinnacles colored sands, and learn how these formations were created. Board the 5:00 PM ferry back to River Heads, and get dropped off at your accommodation between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

2. From Rainbow Beach: Fraser Island 2-Day 1-Night Bus Tour

Gear up for two full days of fun and adventure on Fraser Island. Your guide, a Fraser Island expert with local knowledge and a passion for the island, takes all the hard work out of navigating tides and terrain. Drive across sand tracks to explore beautiful, natural spots and listen to fascinating facts about the island’s history and flora and fauna in air-conditioned comfort. Keep your eye out for dingos and migrating humpback whales (July-November).   Depart Rainbow Beach at approximately 8:00 AM and travel to Inskip for the barge crossing to Hook Point on Fraser Island. On the island, check out the displays at Central Station and discover a former logging station. Stroll along the boardwalk of Wanggoolba Creek to uncover ancient king ferns before hiking through Pile Valley’s subtropical rainforest to see the island’s famous satinay trees.  Enjoy a revitalizing swim in the fresh, crystal-blue water of Lake Mckenzie. Then relax on the sandy white beaches of this picture-perfect dune lake. At Seventy-Five Mile Beach, tour the sandy highway, the “spine of Fraser Island,” running from Hook Point to Great Sandy Cape. During the journey, treat yourself to an optional scenic flight over the island.  Relax on the sandy banks of Eli Creek, wade through the shallow waters, or drift downstream on the fastest-flowing creek on the island — sure to revitalize your mind, body, and soul. Learn the intriguing history of Maheno Shipwreck, a once-proud passenger liner that was washed ashore in 1935 during a cyclone. The Pinnacles Colored Sands are one of Fraser’s most magical locations; hear about how these dreamy cliffs came to be.  See the spectacular Indian Head while cruising up 75 Mile Beach. Stimulate your senses in the Champagne Pools with a dip into a natural ocean jacuzzi. At Lake Wabby, swim in the emerald-green window lake and explore the only example of a barrage lake on Fraser Island, after trekking across the shifting sands of Hammerstone Sandblow.  The tour concludes with departure from Fraser Island on the second day at approximately 4:30 PM, arriving back at your accommodation in Rainbow Beach between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM.

Brett was informative and comical in his delivery of this tour. Even though the weather was horrendous, we found this tour to be excellent. We spent the right amount of time at each location, the buffet lunch at the resort was also decent. We are in our 30s and although being with an older crowd for this trip we still found the tour adventurous and suited to all ages.

It was a fantastic day and very enjoyable even in the rain. A walk in the rain (in a raincoat) through through the rainforest was very memorable. There was plenty of time at each spot to enjoy the area.

It was a vey full day and our driver Butch was so full of amazing information about the Island and the vegetation. We really enjoyed our day.
