Hill of Crosses and Siauliai Tour

2. Hill of Crosses and Siauliai Tour

Starting from Vilnius the tour will take you to the north of Lithuania where you will find Siauliai city and the famous Hill of Crosses. Siauliai is the fourth largest city in Lithuania.   During the drive through the center, there will be a chance to see the famous Frenkel Villa, Church of St. Peter and Paul and meet the Millenium Fox and Golden Archer of the Sundial.  The famous Hill of Crosses will be your next stop, where the Pope John Paul II held the most highly attended mass in our country – during his visit to Lithuania in 1993. This old mound from the days of the crusaders has been decorated with thousands of crosses in every imaginable size and form. This has always been, as it is now, a place of pilgrimage. Today a veritable sea of crosses – hundreds of thousands of them – serves as a monument to Lithuanians’ devotion to their religion. You will learn about the cross making craft - one of the most unique Lithuanian crafts, included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. You will be given your language headphones for the 40 minute journey out. This is a very good summary of the Lithuania, why it has changed; why it kept changing the capital; etc. One of the best summaries I have come across. Trakai itself is very peaceful. This tour allows you to do it in your own time. We went on a boat trip around the main lake. The minibus delivers you, tell you to be back in 2.5 hours. Good trip. Well worth the money.

4 hour trip to Trakai. Lovely little town set in beautiful lakes with an impressive castle set on an island. Great, relaxing trip, definitely recommend.

well managed, nice transport.pickup opposite to the vilnius bell tower and the audioguide was quite informative. Would recommend !!

A convenient way to set up a tour to specific place. Mine was the Trakai Island Castle.

Great way to discover the city and its history at your own rythme.
