Full description
Venice is a city for romance, for excitement, and for intrigue. From its ancient past, to its exciting future, it is best explored with those who know it best - the locals. Today, you'll be whisked deep into the heart of this magical city on your own private tour of the "Calle" and San Marco district. As you enter the "calle," Venetian for street, you'll discover lush gardens hidden behind ancient grates and beautiful houses lining the "boulevard". This is a fascinating city, filled with hidden corners, dark alleys, and luxurious food finds. Your guide will help open your eyes to the many hidden treasures of this city. From its maritime war history, to its unique geographical situation (it boasts 120 islands linked by 350 bridges), you'll have a chance to really learn the history in a personal and intimate way. You'll walk through the ancient districts of Santa Croce and San Polo, and proceed on to the Rialto area with its iconic fish and vegetable market. You'll see the Church of San Giacomo (the oldest in Venice), and the incredible Rialto bridge crossing over the spectacular Grand Canal. Of course, no visit to Venice is complete without spending plenty of time in the San Marco district, and you'll relax and stroll about on what has often been called "the most elegant lounge in Europe". Behind the square looms the magnificent Byzantine Basilica, which is adorned with rich gold mosaics that must be seen to be believed. Make sure to ask your guide about any number of wonderful restaurants around the area. They're there to serve you, and want you to fall in love with Venice, the way that they are.
