From Jökulsárlón: Vatnajökull Glacier Blue Ice Cave Tour

7. From Jökulsárlón: Vatnajökull Glacier Blue Ice Cave Tour

Your journey will begin by meeting your driver guide and the biggest custom-made super jeeps in Iceland! We depart from the Glacier Lagoon and drive for about thirty minutes or as close as possible to Breiðamerkurjökull, the glacial tongue that extends from southern Vatnajökull. During the journey, your guide will explain how ice caves form. They will also share information about the glaciers, volcanoes, and the culture of this area. After arriving, walk for about twenty minutes (1,5 km) until you reach the glacier and the cave’s entry. Before you enter the cave, your guide will go over some safety issues and provide you with helmets and crampons if conditions require them. As Ice Caves are completely natural and change very quickly, nature dictates which caves you are able to access. As the glacier and the caves are in constant change, the conditions for each tour can vary. Keep in mind that from season to season (even within the season), the ice caves change, old ones disappear, and new ones form.

We had an amazing tour. The transportation was as smooth as possible given the rough road. The jeeps were equipped with huge tires. We traveled with a group of 6 adults and 3 kids 9 and 10 years old. The whole experience was great, we didn't feel rushed, we had plenty of time to take pictures. The guide was knowledgeable, funny and kind. Definitely recommend!

Breathtakingly beautiful, exciting, educational, and humbling is how I would describe this tour! Our guides, Javier and Marcos, are absolutely wonderful! They are personable, knowledgeable, and truly excited about what they do and sharing it with others. Thanks, guys! One of the best experiences of my life!

It's definitely worth doing. It's a unique experience. Damian, our guide was very good and helpful. The cost is a bit high, but in general in those places everything costs more than in Italy. My family and I are very happy we did it.

Michal, our guide, was excellent! He provided interesting information about the cave and surrounding glacier. He also took the time to take everyone's pictures and made it a memorable experience. Definitely happy we did this tour.

Alex was a great guide, he took pictures for us and shared history about the ice cave. Highly recommend!!
