Full description
You will admire antique statues such as the Laocoonte and the Apollo Belvedere and mosaics from ancient Roman villas. You will walk through the Gallery of Maps dating from the 16th century, and much more. Discover the secrets of the Sistine Chapel, hidden so well by Michelangelo. The frescoes are stunning, but the meanings are perhaps even more important. Michelangelo’s depictions are about much more than just beauty. Afterwards, your tour continues to the interior of St. Peter's Basilica and then St. Peter's Square. This is the site where the faithful wait for white smoke to appear from the chimney signifying the election of a new pope, and also for the papal benediction, Urbi et Orbi. Hear stories about the Vatican’s history, including intrigues and conspiracies in the papal court, displays of power, and the status and wealth of many popes. You’ll also hear about modest popes who wanted nothing more than the opportunity for contemplation and a return of the church to original Christian ideals.

After our actual guide fell ill, the agency tried to find a replacement for us and it worked well. We should have had a tour at 2 p.m., but this was brought forward to 12 a.m. due to the illness of the guide. Our guide Lorenzo made the tour good overall and explained and brought us a lot closer. Lorenzo probably had a French tour ahead of us and then had to switch to German. He sometimes found it a little difficult, but we always managed to do it together. All in all I have to say, I think it is a shame that you get smacked through the Vatican Museums pretty quickly and sometimes you don't have the time to take a closer look.

Thanks to Giuseppe who was able to pass on some of his knowledge of art history to us, and help us discover the beauties of this city.

Ich war mit meinem Verlobten da. Uns hat eine sehr nette Frau namens Marta herum geführt. Mit ihr konnten wir auch an den ganzen langen Schlange vorbei. Es ist wahrlich nur zu empfehlen.
