Full description
Your exclusive tour of the Vatican museums will begin with complimentary pickup service from your accommodation with a professional English-speaking driver. You will be taken to the usually packed museum entrance, where you will meet your tour guide. With your skip-the-line entry tickets, you will cut the huge entry line and access the security check directly. From here the tour will begin over a gorgeous panoramic terrace that offers a stunning view of St. Peter's Dome, overlooking the Vatican gardens. Your guide will then walk you through all of the highlights of the museums, which include masterpieces and artifacts from different cultures and civilizations. You will enter the Pio Clementine Museum, which is famous for its unique Greek/Roman ancient statues such as the Laocoon group. You can also gasp at the length of the enormous Tapestry Hall, before passing through the Hall of the Painted Maps where you will enter the Sistine Chapel. This chapel's impact on history, religion, and visual arts has no parallel in the world. After visiting the Sistine Chapel, you will pass through a special door available only when accompanied by your tour guide. Through this door you will reach the largest Catholic church in the world: St. Peter's Basilica. This is where Michelangelo's sculpture "Pieta" is kept, and the tombs of the popes including St. John Paul II's and St. Peter the Apostle. The tour will then end in St. Peter's Square, where you will admire Bernini's colonnade and the stunning façade of the basilica. Finally, for those interested in purchasing religious articles or official Vatican products, your tour guide will take you to the official Vatican gift shop, before eventually showing you to the nearest taxi station or subway.
