Full description
The tour outside the YMCA on Burrard Street, from where you'll embark on a 2-hour adventure into the LGBTQ2+ history and culture of this West Coast metropolis.  You'll make your way into the heart of Vancouver's entertainment scene and discover Vancouver's very earliest gay bars. Weave a path through Imperial Court coronations, drag kings at the Quadra, gay ministers at the United Church, Patient Zero, the GRID crisis, and visit the urban oasis Nelson Park until you find yourself in the gaybourhood on Davie Street. The walking tour strolls the historic tree-lined West End as you discover the city's earliest Pride parade, Jim Deva Plaza, bookstore bombings, a transgender campaigner who blew the whistle on the biggest crime in Vancouver history, Vancouver’s secret gay village, and the remarkable story of two-spirited warrior Gone to the Spirits. The tour finishes right in the middle of the action in the Davie Street village with its fantastic variety of bars and restaurants, the perfect place to enjoy a post-walking tour cocktail as you reflect on your afternoon's adventure!

Glenn’s skill as a storyteller and the depth of his research on the history and contributions of the queer community of Vancouver would make those being chronicled proud. This tour was a great way to learn about the often hidden history of our queer ancestors. This was a highlight of my trip. Suggestion to those who sign up: I would recommend checking out parking beforehand, as Downtown parking can sometimes be difficult and a lot of street parking has two hour limits.

This tour was phenomenal! The guide, Glenn, was friendly and entertaining, and you could feel his passion for the subject. The effort that went into compiling the queer community's history over time and piecing it together into a comprehensible timeline of sorts must have been immense, and it was an honour to reap the benefits of such hard work. I would highly recommend this tour if you have so much as a passing interest in queer or historical studies, and it's truly a must for fellow members of the lgbtq2+ community!
