2. From Aix en Provence: Morning Lavender Tour to Valensole
Depart Aix en Provence and journey by minibus to the largest lavender fields of Provence. Make your way to the Plateau de Valensole in the foothills of the Alps, and stop many times along the road to take photos of the lavender fields and sunflowers.
Experience one of the most spectacular landscapes of Provence that owes its beauty to the work of man. Take in the views of the wheat and lavender fields that, when in bloom, create a sea of vivid colors. Go to a distillery to learn how lavender essential oil is produced.
Lavender is harvested at altitudes of up to 700 meters and is used for cosmetics, soap, textiles and more. Wild lavender can be found at altitudes of up to 1,125 meters and is used for fragrances. Visit a local lavender farm to sample some of the local specialties, including almond syrup and produce made with the local olives.
