1. New Orleans: Oak Alley Plantation & Swamp Cruise Day Trip

Experience 2 typical Louisiana features—plantation homes and bayous—on a guided day trip from New Orleans with hotel pickup. Tour Oak Alley Plantation, with entry tickets, included, and look out for wildlife on a boat trip through the swamplands. Start with a pickup from your French Quarter hotel. Head out of New Orleans and travel to Oak Alley Plantation, one of the best-known in the area. Built in 1837-39, the plantation is famous for its alley of 28 evenly spaced live oak trees. Take a guided tour of the historical plantation and gain an educational insight into the times of slavery. Afterward, enjoy a fully narrated boat tour of the swamps. Keep a lookout for alligators, turtles, water birds, and other local wildlife. Listen as your captain tells stories of local Cajun and Creole history, and the people who live in the Bayou area. Finish your tour with the return journey to New Orleans, where you’ll be dropped off at your French Quarter hotel.

Browse the blacksmith shop and souvenir shop, or stop for a snack (at your own expense) in the restaurant. Continue onto Barataria Basin for an airboat tour of the bayou swamplands, where your local captain will guide you through the swamps, marshes, and lakes. This trip was amazing! “Big Joe” was an amazing driver and personality to be around. He is kind and very caring and fun. The swamp tour was laid back and relaxing, the plantation tour was a lot of history and just beautiful to walk around. Though it took a significant part of the day to do both things I would highly recommend it and would do it again it was such a good time! I like they had bars and food at the plantation and no issues with ticketing and stuff bc Big Joe takes care of everything for you.

Really great tour to experience two fantastic places outside of New Orleans. Oak Alley Plantation was really beautiful! Pick-up and drop-off were easy – it was a long day but worth it to do both activities. Both our guides talked non-stop (driver on the way out of town and swamp tour guide) but I guess they just wanted to share what they know. Would recommend!

Great way to do both activities in one day! Definitely need to check this out if you're visiting New Orleans! Didn't feel rushed at all (we even had time for lunch/shopping) and all tour guides were excellent - lots of cool photo opportunities too! Plus, being picked up and dropped off at each location and our hotel was perfect. Highly recommend!

This was an excellent experience being able to go inside the big house and seeing where the slaves lived. It was actually heartbreaking for me to learn about what the slaves had to go through. I recommend going here to learn about the true history of the south.

Oak Alley staff are very knowledgeable. Beautiful and tragic location.
