Full description
Leave the city early in the morning to beat the crowds and arrive at Chonjinboldog area, where the Genghis Khan Monument is located, within an hour. Genghis Khan Statue Complex is the largest equestrian statue in the world. Take an elevator ride up to the horse's neck and relish spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Pay a visit to a small archaeology museum in the base of the statue, stop for a pick-me-up in the restaurant, and shop at the many souvenir shops. You can even try on traditional Mongolian costumes at the museum. Head then to Terelj National Park, the most accessible natural attraction from Ulaanbaatar. The park has many beautiful rock formations including Turtle Rock, Melkhii Khad (meaning "the Old Man Reading a Book"), and Praying Lama Rock. Savor a tasty, traditional lunch at Turtle Rock. After lunch, hike to Aryabal Monastery on a pleasant path and take in the gorgeous scenery along the way. In the evening, visit a nomad family to experience Mongolian lifestyle and hospitality before returning to Ulaanbaatar by approximately 4:30 PM. Extend your tour by choosing to add an overnight stay in a traditional nomadic home in Ger, and have local dinner and breakfast prepared on the site.

Great option for a first day exploring Mongolia but kinda rushed.

The hotel pickup was flexible and easy. We drove to the staue first. You can go to the top, the guide rushed us a little through the exhibition in the basement. Seemed to have some experience with bigger groups but we did not see any. Next stop was the "turtle neck" stone formation in Gorki-Tereji National Park". We were able to climb up but it takes some efforts and experience. After lunch in a nearby ger (yurt) we drove back to Ulaanbaatar.

Avoid it! There is no agency support, we were left to hitchhike!

We were with other two tourists when the minivan got broken at the Terelj Park, so we were LEFT without support from the agency in Ulan Bator. The (independent) guide needed to HITCHHIKE alone at the road to get us back to Ulan Bator since "the company said they would not arrange any car to get us back!!!". Unbelievable!! We (5 people) got back to the city (around 1h 30min ride) in a car of a complete STRANGER and his friend (7 people in a small car!!!) because the agency gave no further support. Of course, mechanical problems can happen to anyone but what is unacceptable is to be unaccountable for your guests and leave them in such a situation. Up to today, I have not received any explanation or apology even though I did get in contact with the company expressing how unacceptable this situation was. For such an expensive tour (for Mongolian price standards a truly rip-off) we expect more, and at least not to get back to the city like HITCHHIKERS.
