From Kigali: 1-Day Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

1. From Kigali: 1-Day Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Trek up the mountains of the Mghahinga National Park in Uganda and get the opportunity to see the magnificent mountain gorillas in their natural habitat on a 1-day guided tour from Kigali. Get picked up at 3:00 AM from your hotel in Kigali and travel northwest to Mghahinga National Park for approximately 3 hours. Enjoy breakfast served ala-carte style with a variety of fresh pieces of bread, pastries, and hot and cold selections at a hotel close to the park.   Make a brief stop at the border to clear with customs and then continue to the National Park headquarters to meet your guides for the day. Embark on a once in a lifetime experience of tracking mountain gorillas. The trekking may be fairly strenuous; up to 3 hours or longer at a relatively high altitude.  Tracking the gorillas through the light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virunga is a magical experience. These massive primates are extremely rare, with less than 1000 living today. Once you spot the gorillas you are allowed to spend an hour watching them. You have an opportunity to get within meters of the families. This is perhaps one of the most breath-taking experiences on earth. Return and stop for lunch in town and later proceed to Kigali. If leaving Kigali, you will arrive in time to transfer to the airport for your onward flight, or if time allows, go on a last-minute shopping before departure.

See monkeys, monitor lizards, pythons, and maybe even an authentic African Witchdoctor. Admire a truly spectacular natural setting that is ideal for birdwatching and allows for nature walks. I did the three-hour food tour with Andrew and it was one of the best tours I did in Uganda. I was the only one on the tour. Prior to the tour Andrew contacted me via Whatsapp to ensure everything was ok. Andrew was really great to chat with and knew a great deal about the food as well as the history and culture of Uganda in general. I opted to skip the boda so we ended up walking about 7km, eating from various street stalls all along the way. I tried a lot of delicious local food including rolex, half cake, grasshoppers, jackfruit, fried fish and more. The tour culminated with an all you can eat buffet lunch. I was admittedly pretty full by this point but I gave it a good go nonetheless. Can highly recommend this tour. Andrew was really an excellent guide and it was a pleasure to spend three hours chatting with him about local life in Uganda and and trying lots of delicious local food.

A wonderful tour for people who want to experience Kampala's rich and colorful arts and culture scene and discover hidden gems that would otherwise not be seen. The Faculty of Fine Arts on the campus of Uganda's most prestigious university, fantastic art galleries and fashion designers. In addition, the incredibly nice and competent accompaniment of tour guide Arthur, who speaks fluent German and English and took much more time for us than planned. And Andrew, our patient, relaxed and very very friendly driver. Definitely recommended for everyone who wants to get to know Kampala from a completely different side!

Arthur speaks very good English. He spoke enthusiastically about the history of Uganda and Entebbe, the role of the English in history and the origin of the state. Politics was discussed, as well as the latest developments, the consequences of Covid and Ebola. In short, a clear tour with attention to questions and interests.

Our guide Arthur showed us really great and interesting things. His German was extremely good!!! He was great at answering all questions. We had a lot of fun.

You will spend couple hours driving but already knowing this before it was a great experience. So thanks again to the guides and the driver.
