The Uffizi Gallery is an absolute must when visiting Florence. Built in 1560 and known as the oldest museum in the world, it was designed by the famous renaissance architect Giorgio Vasari, but originally had a different purpose. The grand duke of Tuscany Cosimo I de Medici decided to re-establish the authority of the Medici family. The great industries of Florence such as wool, silk, and banking had a huge influence on the politics in Florence. After Cosimo I eliminated most of his rivals he decided to collect the rest of them in one single building and give an office to each of them. In fact, Uffizi means offices. Cosimo's idea was to keep his eyes and ears on all of them. After Cosimo's death, his children lost interest in politics. His eldest son, Francesco I, brought his private collection of art works and made the Uffizi his private museum. In this tour Uffizi tour with a profess...

Climbing up 300+ stairs was tough, probably the first time and last time, but it is worthy.
Begin your tour in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, in the religious heart of Florence. Learn about the Baptistery of Saint John, as you see it from the outside, with its famous "Gates of Paradise". Head inside the cathedral to admire the mosaic decorations and see the Crypt of Santa Reparata. Visit the Opera del Duomo Museum, home to spectacular works of art including the original Gates of Paradise, Donatello's Maria Maddalena, and Michelangelo's Pieta. After the guided portion of the tour, climb 463 steps to Brunelleschi's Dome, to enjoy the best views over the city of Florence.
The gardens extend over a vast area forming an open-air museum with antique and Renaissance statues, grottoes, and large fountains. Exploring its numerous and varied walks one is able to evoke the spirit of life at court. The Grotta del Buontalenti is an artificial cave filled with false stalactites and stalagmites, with statues of sheep, shepherds, and Romans goddesses. The cave is located close to the entrance of the Boboli Garden and at the end of the Vasari Corridor.
Good, you need to still queue up with people buying tickets to exchange them (may as well just queue for a ticket?). All in all, good experience, lovely to walk around but just gardens, not colourful

This was such great value for money. Alessandro & Riccardo took very good care of us on our trip. It was well organised and kept to a timely schedule. Alessandro (guide) is very enthusiastic and has a wealth of knowledge to share. He also makes some great jokes that keeps the information enjoyable rather than a history lesson. Could not recommend more doing this trip as you really get to see all of Tuscany. The lunch will also cater for dietary needs which is great!

Fully loaded day! Do note, this is a tour is in a large group (~30 people), but this caused no problem - easy to hear guide, great to meet like minded people too. Emmanuel and Mano were our guides for the day - entertaining, insightful and very helpful. Highly recommend having the meal (~15 euro each), some of the best food we had. The views all along the hike are stunning - you can go at your own pace, there’s no rush, so we do recommend this A fantastic (busy) day, and a memory we will treasure
