From Tromsø: Ice Domes Guided Tour and Reindeer Visit

1. From Tromsø: Ice Domes Guided Tour and Reindeer Visit

For this tour you will be picked up from the city center of Tromsø, from where you will be taken to the Tromsø Ice Domes, a 90-minute scenic bus drive away. Upon arrival, a host will welcome you and take you on an entertaining journey through the magical rooms of Tromsø Ice Domes. Each year, the snow - and ice sculptures portray typical Northern Norwegian themes such as Northern Lights, Sami culture and Arctic animals. They are beautifully displayed inside the domes with special light effects creating magical scenes. You will learn about the construction process of the domes, the impact the snow has on all life in the Arctic and have a non-alcoholic ice shot at the ice bar. As part of this guided tour, there will be some free time to walk around by yourself and visit the reindeer that are herding next to the Ice Domes. We will serve a traditional Norwegian soup or stew and hot drinks inside the domes before heading back to Tromsø by bus. You will also get the option to book this activity excluding the bus transfer from Tromsø. When choosing this option, we expect you to arrive/leave by own transport at/from Camp Tamok.

Dovrefjell National Park: Hiking Tour and Musk Ox Safari

2. Dovrefjell National Park: Hiking Tour and Musk Ox Safari

Together with an experienced guide, you will search for musk ox while hiking through the beatiful National Park of Dovrefjell. Along the way, you will learn about the musk ox's behaviour and history, other wildlife such as reindeer, as well as the importance of the national park to local culture. The safari starts at 10:00. We drive 5-10 min to where we start the hike. (If you don't have your own vehicle, please contact us beforehand and so we can arrange transport.) The musk ox are wild animals, and to ensure everyone's safety, we don't go closer than 200 m. The animals move freely in the national park, which means that they are in different places every day, and the hike can be anywhere between 6 and 15 km in total. The safari usually takes 5-6 hours, depending on group fitness. Dogs are allowed to join, but in some cases the owner and dog have to keep a longer distance to the animals. The weather in the Norwegian mountains can be unpredictable, so bring extra warm clothes. We recommend wearing waterproof hiking shoes. Bring a packed lunch and something to drink. If you have binoculars, you should bring those too! The safari ends at the same place as the starting point.

Depending on the weather conditions, we will take you to different locations around the camp (by foot) from where the northern lights can be observed. When it is time to warm up, we will serve a hot meal inside around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. After relaxing and warming up, it is time to board the bus again to be driven back to the city center of Tromsø. What people are saying about Trøndelag County

We love hiking, but it was our first experience with snowshoeing. Peter is an amazing guide who talks about several things and explains them well and answers our questions. It was our last activity in Tromso, and it gave a lasting impression. We will do it again if we visit Tromso ever again.

The ice dome was magnificent. The sculpting on the walls was just gorgeous. Lunch was good and you did get to look at the reindeer but there was no interaction. The star here is visiting the ice dome, seeing the sculptures and seeing how people would actually stay there overnight.

It was our first time in this kind of trip. We enjoyed it a lot. The guide, Ellie was amazing, fresh and full of stories. The equipment was perfect, lunch very good, the warm tea and chocolate perfect. We wanted to do it again but it was fully booked. Understandable.

Interesting sight! Also had some very educational pieces of information shared during the explanation. The staff we interacted with are very friendly and accommodating. Kudos to them!

Great fun, stunning scenery and our guide Max was fantastic!
