Full description

Head to the wilderness in northern Norway on a quest for the best spot to see the northern lights. Drive away from light pollution to different remote destinations, depending on the weather conditions.

After you have met your guide, make a stop to dress up in thermal clothing. During this stop there will be a short introduction and time for you to set up your cameras and listen to some photography tips. Then you’ll start the hunt for the northern lights.

Your guide will decide the route based on the most up-to-date weather forecasts, sometimes driving all the way to the Finnish border. In the region, there are many different microclimates, so it is possible to find clear skies even when it is cloudy in Tromsø.

Once your guide finds the best spot to enjoy the aurora borealis, stop and wait for the lights to appear. If the conditions allow it, you can make a bonfire to keep warm. Relax, enjoy a warm homemade meal, get to know your group, and photograph the amazing natural phenomenon of the northern lights.

During our time together in the wilderness, we will to collect data for one of our citizen science projects. You'll have the opportunity to follow our validated scientific method to collect data that will be used to protect our precious tundra. After the data collection, that data is uploaded to our research partners' database, where they'll use it in their research that will help inform policy making and be used as data in our Responsible Tourism Project, where we work with other local tourism professionals to ensure the tundra is protected.

During the trip, your guide will help you with your camera and take additional photos to share with you after the trip. Relax by the campfire with hot chocolate before returning to your hotel.

Activity carried out by the guide “Anthony” We had an extraordinary time with the group made up of French and English speakers. We took some wonderful photos at the water's edge and on land. We were lucky to have ideal weather conditions (clear, starry sky, aurora borealis present). We also had a homemade soup and hot chocolate around the fire made by Anthony. A big thank you to Anthony and his friendliness which allowed us to spend a magical moment with nature. Anthony shared his photographic talents with us and sent us the photos the next day (very responsive and a magnificent photo). We highly recommend this activity. Thank you for this unforgettable moment!!! Jean-Julien & Kelly
