Full description

Combine a dog sledding adventure followed by a guided visit to the magical Tromsø Ice Domes. Set among high mountains in the beautiful Tamok Valley, the Tromsø Ice Domes are built every year as the Polar Night approaches. For this tour, you will be picked up from the city center of Tromsø, from which you will be taken to the wilderness center in Camp Tamok. Upon arrival at Tromsø Ice Domes, receive warm winter clothing and learn how to steer the dog sled.

Dog sledding with the Alaskan huskies is an active experience. The sled team consists of two and two people on one sled sharing a team of huskies. Teamwork is essential in dog sledding and together with the team, you will help to push on parts of the tour. After the dog sledding, visit the Ice Domes where the ice bar, cinema, and suites have themes ranging from local Sami culture to the Northern Lights conveyed through beautiful colored lighting and wonderful ice sculptures.

Join a guided tour and learn about the construction process of the ice hotel and the impact the snow has on the survival of Arctic animals. There will be time to walk around freely and ask questions to the experienced guide. You will be able to purchase other drinks at the ice restaurant or ice bar. During this combination tour, you will get a chance to visit a small herd of reindeer near the Ice Domes for reindeer feeding.

The husky sled ride was uniquely beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed driving the sled through the beautiful snowy landscape ourselves. The guides were all very courteous and helpful. A delicious (for us vegan) meal was served in a typical tent. The Ice Domes tour was also interesting and impressive. What unfortunately came up short were the reindeer. Here we could only catch a quick glimpse through the fence. Here we would have liked to have had a little more time and contact with the animals. But all in all an absolutely recommendable activity!

We had wonderful winter weather with snowfall and were even allowed to drive the sled ourselves. Instruction in English was not a problem and we then started in groups of 4 and accompanied. Unfortunately, we had the bad luck that there was a couple in front of us who weighed a total of about 3 hundredweight and the overweight man fell off the sled after 400 meters. He then sat on the sled and his partner worked as a musher. However, the woman and the dogs were completely overwhelmed by the heavy weight. The woman did not have the strength to actively support the dogs and even swapping dogs and harnessing a 6th dog was not helpful. So we drove constantly behind this sled for 1 hour, it had to be stopped constantly and unfortunately we weren't allowed to overtake either. The woman and the dogs were at the end of their strength and we felt it was irresponsible that the dogs were allowed to pull the sledge with such weights!

Simply a great experience, which is an essential part of a holiday in Norway. Starting with the landscape, which you can already enjoy when you arrive, to the artistic design in the ICE DOME. Just great. The husky sled ride was just a great experience. After a short briefing, we went to the dogs, who were all excited and happy that it was finally starting. It was driven in a small group of about 8 sleds one behind the other. The sledge was steered by oneself, with the possibility of swapping with one's partner halfway through. A great round, about 70 minutes drive through a great landscape. Thanks to Amber, our guide, who kept an eye on everyone and was always there if there was a "little problem". Everyone was super nice, friendly and helpful. A short break to warm up in the tent with tea and lamb stew was also included and super delicious after the husky tour. All in all a really great trip.
