Full description
After meeting with your guide, prepare to set off on a walking tour through Troia. The city was built in the 11th century on the ancient ruins of the Roman city of Aece. During the Roman Empire it became Municipium, thus becoming an important crossroad of the Appia-Traiana Road. During the itinerary you'll discover the characteristic historic center, which overlooks the Daune Hills. You will visit the splendid Romanesque Cathedral among the most beautiful in Puglia, which were built from 1093 and which were also influenced by the Pisan Romanesque movement. It is considered one of the greatest Apulian artistic masterpieces, for the harmony of proportions and for artistic examples such as the rose window and the bronze portal. The guide will show you all the beauties of the village, including the churches and the ancient palaces which belonged to important families and were built starting from the 16th century.
