You will stop first and visit the Brancoveanu Monastery, an ancient Orthodox monastery built at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains. You will then continue to the mountains which host the Transfagarasan Highway, the most spectacular and beautiful mountain road in Europe. The road has been featured on the UK motor show Top Gear, and traverses up through the mountains uniting Transylvania with Valachia. Whilst there you will experience great scenes, noisy waterfalls, and with some luck you may even see wild animals such as the brown bear or black goats. Moving onward, you will travel to the Balea Glacier Lake, where you will have lunch at the Lake Balea Chalet. You can then take a walk around the lake, and in summer can also climb up the slope near the lake. From the top of this ridge you will have wonderful pictures with the peaks of the surrounding mountains and the lake and cottage Balea. Florin is great. He tells you ahead of time what’s going to happen segment by segment, ensures you’re getting the right depth of historical details, never rushes you along. He is amenable to changes and even knows a great place for hamburgers in Sibiu, which likely means he knows great eating places everywhere he tours. He is a great conversationalist for those boring parts on the highway, so talk away with him. I highly recommend him!

Timely transport - note that BUS/VAN MAY NOT BE MARKED. Both me and the driver were standing around eachother for 20 minutes because I was looking for a marked transport. Slight misscommunication as I wanted to take the gondola both ways but he ended up driving to the top just because communicating in English was not 100%. Besides those small mess ups though, good transport, quick and clean, and driver was very nice.

A must-see in Romania. Due to the altitude levels, both landscape and vegetation change rapidly. Special thanks to my driver guide Claudiu for all the information about Transsylvania and his support throughout the entire tour.

Good driver, interesting scenery. Possibly make a short stop on the route. The approx. 45 min. The last part of the hike to the waterfall is very rocky, steep and only for experienced hikers.
