Full description

Explore one of the oldest monuments in London on an early morning guided tour of the Tower of London, and see the Crown Jewels before the crowds arrive. Skip the long lines to the legendary site, where 3 English queens were executed, and get a brief introduction to the origins of the attraction before you meet one of the Yeomen Warders, more commonly known as Beefeaters.

Learn about the traditions of these elite guardsmen, historically responsible for the prisoners at the tower and for safeguarding the Crown Jewels. Journey through centuries of British history and see where Guy Fawkes was put on trial. Marvel at magnificent orbs, swords, rings, crowns, and scepters used for royal ceremonies and coronations. Stay at the Tower of London to explore at your own pace once your official tour is over.

We took the Early Access tour first thing in the morning to the Tower of London with a Beefeater as a guide. If you can, arrange to go as early, the Tower got very busy later in the morning. The Beefeater was the tour guide so to speak for the first hour or so. The Beefeater are all military men and women who have served their country for decades. They and their families live onsite. We found our Beefeater was funny, kind, patient and incredibly knowledgeable. They provide a brief history of Tower of London, which has been a palace, a warehouse, a prison, and more over the last 1,000 years. The crown jewels are housed in the Tower of London, and they truly are amazing. Inside the center of the Tower of London is the White Castle and this houses a remarkable collection of antiquities, particularly with respect to armor. The Tower of London was interesting, but the time is so much more special with the Beefeater.

We thoroughly enjoyed our guide and our Beefeater. While many people said it wasn't truly a tour with a Beefeater, they have a great overview of the history and grounds. Then they let you loose and you have the full rest of the day to explore the Whute Tower and The Royal Jewels and anything else. There are employees everywhere that you can ask questions but you can also just read the information presented at the displays like any museum and get the information. It definitely got busy quickly on a beautiful Saturday so the early admission to get into the Jewel display before most others was worth it. If you're wanting a very long, involved tour with a Beefeater, there are other more expensive options to choose.

The tour guide was easy to spot as he was carrying a huge flag! we also got a tour from a tour guide about the history of the surrounding area before we were given over to a beefeeater for a tour inside the tower gates. Our Yeoman was the Raven Master and was very insightful and funny! It was amazing to tour the tower before anyone else and ask any questions we had. such a beautiful place and so much to learn, you could easily spend a day there!
