Johannesburg : City Centre Walking Tour

1. Johannesburg : City Centre Walking Tour

Walkthrough Johannesburg and feel the hustle and bustle of the people, lifestyle and culture of the city. Visit Nelson Mandela's Law firm and get a 360 degree view of the city at the Top of Africa, in the Carlton Centre. Start at Museum Africa, in Newtown, then move on to the Workers Museum, the last surviving municipal compound for African men in Johannesburg. Continue to Chancellor House, where Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo set up South Africa’s first black-owned law firm. Go to Main Street, which has some of the best old buildings in the city. Main Street will lead you to Gandhi Square, a busy urban hub of commercial and retail activity. From there, move on to the Top of Africa, inside the tallest skyscraper on the continent. After Carlton, take local transport to Maboneng, an arts neighborhood, for a Braii lunch (vegan, vegetarian friendly).

What people are saying about Top of Africa

TEBOGO was fantastic! He is so knowledgeable about the history and culture of Joburg. We are very happy that we did his tour right after we arrived, because he introduced us to so much. He linked different events and people together, making the tour a fine introduction to the changes that Joburg underwent over the last two centuries. We liked that he spoke slowly and clearly, so that everyone could understand him. Always ready to take time to answer questions, he shepherded us through downtown. We felt safe, because he kept us to the right neighborhoods. We even took an Uber one time to hop past an area he wanted to avoid. Walking tours are the best way to get a feel for a city and we appreciated getting to know several neighborhoods. We gained a good foundation for a (van-type) tour of different areas the following day. We have enjoyed walking tours all over the world and feel that he is up there with the best. We particularly enjoyed ending with a typical South African meal!

the visit was fabulous and essential to understand the ancient and current history of the city. my guide Tebogo was incredibly professional and wonderful company all morning and during lunch. this boy goes far as he drives. We visited several neighborhoods.

The Tour was good. It contains also a lil bit of Street Art, which was interesting. Tebogo gaves us a lot of input about the areas. He is a very polite and friendly person. His English is pretty good and easy understandable.

Tebogo is a young guide that is very professional, speaks clearly and all details of historical and cultural backgrounds. I loved it mainly because of the inspirational tour given by Tebogo.
