Dive headfirst into the charming Tokyo neighborhoods of Nakano and Koenji, as you explore the twisting alleyways, alternate subcultures and casual eateries that give these unique enclaves their distinctive character. Feast upon a tailored selection of everyday eats from local vendors, independent markets and Japanese franchises, as you walk the nostalgic 'shotengai', boisterous eating and drinking ‘yokocho’ and contrasting calm of the residential backstreets. Gain a detailed insight into life in the streets, as well as newfound confidence to take on Tokyo’s flourishing dining scene as a neighborhood pro. We really enjoyed our food tour with Andy recently. It provided a great opportunity to try different local foods alongside an explanation of their origin. Andy provided a good commentary with insight into local customs and culture which was fascinating. We were a small group of six and we visited lovely old streets in areas we would never have found. It also gave us more confidence to try different foods after the tour. We would definitely recommend the west side street food tour.

Andy was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and able to gauge his audience perfectly. Just enough info about the food and areas to keep you curious and make you want to come back and explore for yourself. Definitely recommend this - good for kids too (my two boys - 11 and 9 - loved it).

Andy takes you through his local neighborhoods and gives you some insight into the area and everyday Japanese life and culture. The food we sampled was delicious with some local delicacies like dango (mochi) and the best inari I have ever tried. I really enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to anyone who wants to see more than just the tourist side of Tokyo and also try some local food.
