Full description
Explore the alleys of Tokyo's Shinbashi area, known for its rustic izakayas (pubs) and food stalls. Grab some of the most satisfying food on the planet as you discover the vibrant district after dark! Start by entering the chasm of eateries overrun on a nightly basis by the working class of Japan. Join the thousands of businessmen who go to their favorite izakaya bar for a quick bite and cold beer before going home. Stop for some sashimi (raw fish), large gyoza (dumplings) and tamagoyaki (omelet), and then continue to a yakitori stall serving skewered meat and veggies cooked over an open fire. Wind your way through the maze of izakayas to find one of the most hidden okonomiyaki (pancake) shops, where only the locals go. Savor an authentic okonomiyaki with a drink before heading back to Shinbashi Station for the end of the tour.

This was a great experience. “Yappy,” our guide, was charming, informative and took us on an odyssey we never could have done on our own. The highlight was a izakawa run by the same family for nearly 70 years. The owner presided over the place and the chef prepared several courses, with the dumplings out of this world. Highly recommended!

Fantastic Japanese food and delicious sake

Joko and Norma have made for a very pleasant evening. The price was double and worth it. Delicious eaten in excellent cozy Japanese restaurants. Now I know that warm sake is actually not the best sake. This tour is highly recommended if you want to learn more about Tokyo

Yappy, Japanese travel guide, adjusted our tour to keep us out of the threat of rain. We went to a small izakaya, sake tasting, yakitori restaurant and finally a ramen stand. Lots of good food and drinks!
