Full description
Yanaka, selected as one of the top 100 beautiful and historical natural features of Japan, is an increasingly popular destination for international visitors. Enjoy some time away from the busy modern city and experience the Tokyo of the past. Yanesen (a shortening of Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi) is a historic district from Tokyo’s Edo period known for its traditional style. Your guide will take you to visit Yanaka-Ginza, a shopping street from the old days. As you’ll find on the 3.5-hour tour, Yanaka has many interesting sights to see, including the Yanaka Reien (cemetery), which is famous as a site for viewing cherry blossoms in the spring. Over the years many great Japanese writers have come to this area for inspiration. From the vantage point of a slope, you’ll be able to look across to a labyrinth of pathways, with views that evoke a feeling of traveling back in time.

The real Japan

This was an amazing experience. The knowledge and hospitality displayed by Yoshimi, our guide, was world class. The history learned and sights seen gave us a better understanding of Japanese culture. One that is not often seen past the bright lights and sounds of modern Tokyo. We recommend this tour to anyone visiting Japan/Tokyo.

Great tour with great guide Mikko off the beaten tracks

I booked this 3.5 hour tour in the older part of Tokyo to see isomething different than the main touristic areas. Mikko, our guide was very passionate about this area in which she also lived. She did a great job in explaining the culture and history of the area and I can advise you to consider this tour. You will walk in back streets, visit the grave of the last Shogun, very nice and quiet temples and at the end the local shopping street. No high rise buildings but small local houses wit tiny gardens. Thank you Mikko for guiding us through the area and making sure we had a nice time. Learned something, had fun and a healthy walk.

A great walking tour

This was an interesting and enjoyable tour. Sumiko was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and its history and was able to answer all our questions about what we were seeing as well as other questions about life in Japan. We had plenty of time to stop and look at different sights or buy delicious bread and pastries and pottery at the interesting shops. We were lucky to visit Nezu Shrine with the azaleas in full bloom - they were amazing. Thank you Sumiko for giving us a look at a different side of Tokyo - away from the busy traffic and high-rise buildings
