  • Tirana: Gamti Mountain Hike with Lake Views

    2. Tirana: Gamti Mountain Hike with Lake Views

Your experience begins as you are collected from your accommodation at 8:00AM, from where you depart for Bovilla Lake. The road is about 21 kilometers long, with half of it being off-road. Along the way, enjoy views of the suburban neighborhoods of Tirana, taking in the very different lifestyle to that of the city. Drive up to the lake's dam, before preparing to hike in Gamti Mountain. Your hiking track is of a simple level, with each step providing you with a more beautiful view than the last as you ascend to the top. Your hike lasts about 40 minutes, and on top of the hill you can enjoy the impressive views of the lake and the green hills that surround it. Whilst there, take some time to rest, enjoy the gorgeous view, and talk and eat food under the shadows of the cave. Following your break, return back down via the same track. Once done hiking, make a short stop at the river below ...

Alban was the best guide I have ever had. He goes over and above to ensure that we were well looked after and is very knowledgeable about all things Albanian. He encourages you to go the extra mile, even though I was a little nervous at first on the hike. Would thoroughly recommend. We went further and booked him for a five day private tour, which was absolutely fantastic, and went through the Albanian alps, including Komani Lake, Shala River, Valbone to Theth mountain pass and Shkoder. He ensured we had the best rooms in the guesthouses, the best seats when we needed to share transportation and allowed us full flexibility to hike and see and go swimming in waterfalls and blue eyes off the beaten track. Thank you very much Alban for making our trip to Albania unforgettable! J&O

What people are saying about Tirana

Our guide, Endri, met us promptly at 9:00 and we set off for Apollonia. During our drive, Endri filled us in on some Albanian history, culture, customs, and geography. Upon our arrival at the archeological site, we were met by a professional archeologist, Arjan. He gave us a very descriptive tour which included a small museum housed in part of a 13th century AD Orthodox Church complex. After this informative visit, we left for Durres with a stop en route at a wonderful local village restaurant where we ate incredibly good seafood. In Durres, we walked the waterfront and visited the 2 century AD amphitheater, which was just partially excavated starting in the 1960’s. Our trip culminated with ice-cream and coffee at a great shop before our return to Tirana. There is a lot of walking and riding on this tour and it was a long day, but worth it. Our guide, Endri, was professional, personable, and very knowledgeable. We would request him again.

The best guided tour I had while in Tirana. Ilir is truly the best guide in Albania. His English is great, he’s got an amazing history knowledge and very interesting stories. Also , he is very attentive, making sure the tourists are safe and all needs are met. Ilir also helped me when I was left in a lurch my another tour operator and organised a bespoke trip on a very short notice. I can’t thank him enough.
