See the well-known but rarely visited Shalu and Sakya Monasteries. Day 1: Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa. Arrive and be greeted by your guide. Transfer to your hotel and spend the day at your own leisure while acclimatizing to the high altitude. Day 2: Take a sightseeing tour of Lhasa. Visit the Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Bazaar. Day 3: Continue sightseeing in Lhasa and visit Potala Palace, Norbulingka Palace, and the Sera Monastery. Day 4: After breakfast, depart for Gyangtse via Yamdrok Lake. Visit the Pelkhor Chode Monastery and see the Gyangtse Kumbum stupa. Embark on a magical and unforgettable journey through the Upper Mustang on a 19-day trek which will push your physical endurance but is intensely rewarding. Travel through arid and haunting wilderness amongst wind eroded hills and cliffs on the way to the borders of the Tibetan Plateau. Discover how the region, until relatively recent times, was a Kingdom within Nepal with its own monarch, hidden from the outside world until the early 90s. The area was first opened to tourists in 1992 and only then with strict limits on the number of people allowed to travel there. Follow the Gandaki Valley trail with occasional detours above the valley walls. Settlements along the trail are scattered with little sign of cultivation between villages. Finally, arrive in Lo Manthang, the mystical capital of Upper Mustang filled with a rich history and cultural heritage. Explore the maze of gompas (religious shrines) and houses that surround the king's palace.  Itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu (TIA) International Airport (1,365 m). Transfer to your hotel, then, enjoy an evening welcome dinner. Stay overnight at the hotel.  Day 2: Spend a free day in Kathmandu preparing for the trek. Stay overnight at the hotel.  Day 3:  Drive for 5 hours from Kathmandu to Pokhara Valley (910 m). Stay overnight at the hotel. Day 4: Fly for 20 minutes from Pokhara to Jomsom. Walk for 3-4 hours to Kagbeni (2,858m). Stay overnight in a guest house. Day 5:  Trek for 5-6 hours from Kagbeni to Chaile (3050 m). Stay overnight in a guest house. Day 6:  Trek for 6-7 hours from Chaile to Syangboche (3,800 m). Stay overnight in a guest house. Day 7:  Trek for 5-6 hours from Syangboche to Game (3,490 m). Stay overnight in a guest house. Day 8:  Trek for 4-5 hours from Game to Tsarang (3,730 m). Stay overnight in a guest house. Day 9-10:  Trek for 5-6 hours from Tsarang to Lo-Mangthang (3840 m). Then spend a rest day to explore. Stay overnight in a guest house. Day 11: Trek for 4-5 hours from Lo-Mangthang to Ghami (3,520 m). Stay overnight in a guest house. Day 12: Trek for 5-6 hours from Ghami to Samar (3806 m). Stay overnight in a guest house.
