Then visit the Bodbe Monastery, where Saint Nino is buried, the man who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4th century.   Continue to Sighnaghi, founded by King Erekle II in 1772. Enjoy the mixture of classic Italian and Georgian architecture, and the stunning panoramic views of Alazani Valley. Stop at the village of Velistsikhe to visit the 16th century wine cellar. Have your first taste of Georgian wine here, and see how Georgians stored wine during the medieval period.   Next, travel to the House Museum of Alexander Chavchavadze in Tsinandali, to see the wonderful French gardens and wine cellar. Then visit the wine factory-museum Shumi, to enjoy another wine tasting. You can also purchase locally made wines from the museum shop.
