Full description

The Estonian maritime city of Tallinn is truly one of the gems of Northern Europe. The old town has been astonishingly well preserved and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

There is also a new town center, called Vabaduse Valjak or Freedom Square, at the edge of the old town. Nearby is the giant matchbox of Hotel Viru, a former tourist flagship and notorious den of Cold War intrigue. During this era, every room was tapped and monitored by the KGB! The city has been influenced by Germany, Italy, Russia, and Scandinavia. Tallinn’s calendar is packed with festivals celebrating music, film, art, theater, culture, and food. Sea-faring festivals, the Opera Festival, and the Tallinn Marathon also feature prominently on the calendar. Explore this alluring city and take advantage of all there is to see and do during your stay. Take the bus tour to the old town and admire the 14th and 15th-century architecture and narrow, twisting streets. You can also try out the local cuisine at any of a number of restaurants here.

The offered tours themselves are quite interesting, give a good overview and are recommendable. Unfortunately, however, there is a chaos of information with outdated brochures and information material as well as misleading, contradictory information about departure times, stops and starting points of the tours, which even the city's tourist information office cannot clarify.

I really liked the tour. A lot of new information and positive emotions. Only the MEETING PLACE is not the Town Hall Square, but the N1-Mere Pst 5 stop. There, after making one tour, you can transfer to another bus of the same company and make another round of the tour, then again transfer if you wish to the next bus. And the tour started NOT at 10.30, as I read in the information, but at 10.45. Tour highly recommend. Headphone audibility is excellent, drivers are friendly.

From the crusader terminal, we drove past the Russalka memorial (no possibility to get out here due to construction site) and past the Sängerwiesen to the Altstadt stop. From there it went on foot directly into the upper town with cathedral and cathedral, then via the short stairs to the lower town with shops and cafes. We no longer needed the bus to return. Through the "Pikk", the main street in the old town, we could comfortably walk to the "Dicken Margarte" and back to the ship. Those who are good on foot, only want to see the historic city center and do not need explanations about the sights, can do without the bus. We wanted to save our strength for the next cities, still get an overview and not book any of the ship's (and more expensive) excursions. In terms of time we only managed the red route, for the green and blue tour it was too tight for us. We especially wanted to spend our time in the old town.
