Discover the monuments of Alfama, one of the oldest and most atmospheric districts of Lisbon, and the only part of the city to survive the Great Earthquake of 1755. The neighborhood is a silent witness to the past glories and tragedy of Portugal, from the fall of empires to the birth of the new nation. Wander the narrow streets and ornate squares that echoed to the sounds of Phoenician traders, calls to prayer, and the rattle of historic trams. Here you will find the heart of fado music, a sound of longing and loss that gives voice to the languages, cultures, and religions that have all contributed to the district’s rich sense of community. Walk down Moorish streets and see some of the Roman foundations of Lisbon. Follow the silvery banks of the River Tagus, and marvel at the sun-bleached sandstone walls of the Castle of St George. Make your ascent to the city summit gently to let your breath be taken away by the amazing views.

Start under the 25th of April bridge and go straight to Commerce Square and Cais das Colunas. Discover Alfama form the river for a fresh perspective; admire the castle above the hill, the Convent of St. Vincent, and the National Pantheon. Cross to the southbank and visit the Sanctuary of Cristo Rei directly above you. Enjoy exploring the river mouth before you get to the Atlantic Ocean, right in front of the Tower of Belem, one of the most iconic monuments in Lisbon. Then, admire the Discoveries Monument with all it's iconic figures. Then experience a sense of adventure on the speedboat.

Meet your local guide and head to Tomar on a road trip that takes about one hour. When there, go directly to the Templar Castle and the Convento de Cristo Monastery and be amazed by this magnificent monument filled with history. Descend to the city of Tomar and visit the old town passing by the old Synagogue, the oldest in Portugal. You have the chance to walk around and find some of the most unique buildings in the city. Spend some free time to enjoy lunch.  Leaving Tomar, head to Constância, where Luís de Camões, the most famous Portuguese poet, is said to have lived. There, enjoy the magnificent views of the confluence of Zêzere and Tejo rivers. Take a small boat ride in the calm waters of the Tagus river up to the unique Almourol Castle island, where you have some more free time to explore. At the end of the day, return to Lisbon in the comfortable van.
