From Syracuse: Etna Volcano & Zafferana Etnea Private Tour

2. From Syracuse: Etna Volcano & Zafferana Etnea Private Tour

Reach the summit crater on Mount Etna. It is the highest volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. It has also been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013. Visit the nearby town of Zafferana Etnea, offering stunning views of the mountain and sea. Begin your private excursion by meeting your driver at your hotel in Syracuse. Before reaching Rifugio Sapienza, stop near a cave of lava origin. Explore the dark cave with a helmet and torchlight. From here, you can choose how to continue onward. Either trek up to 2000 meters on a simple trail of the Etna Park and admire forests and lava sceneries on the way. Or pick the "Etna high altitude" route. The second option comes with extra costs to be paid on-site for the comfort of the Etna Cableway and 4×4 off-road vehicles. This will take you to the Torre del Filosofo (Philosopher’s Tower), perched 2900 meters above sea level. Explore the central crater and lava-covered slopes that characterize the Etna landscape. No matter which path you take, you will be rewarded with stunning sea views and imposing craters at the top. Continue the tour to Zafferana Etnea, the city of honey. What people are saying about Syracuse

We had a great trip around Ortigia and the various Siracusa grottos with our skipper Otto, who was very insightful with his information about key sites but was also great at letting us sit back, relax and enjoy the sights, sun and sea. We saw a number of other boat trips out at the same time which looked to be more crowded and just quickly buzzing between stops. This tour took it's time and let us really enjoy the sites in what seemed like a lot more comfort than the other boats we saw.

The company were excellent and more than helpful in getting us going. Our captain (pilot?) Otto was really knowledgeable about the sights you could see from the water, and made us feel very comfortable during our tour. I have nothing but good things to say, this was definitely the highlight of our trip

What a great guide we had..she was very knowledgeable of the history along the way and was able to answer questions we had.

Eva was a great guide, very informative and made the tour interesting.

Great experience, knowledgeable, personable guide.
