9. Stuttgart: Stäffele Tour in German
Choose between 4 different tour routes:
• Tour North
Begin with a short walk through the new European quarter then head up the steps to the Chinese Garden for a beautiful view over the city. Then, continue uphill to Killesberg where there's a lot to discover. Make your way through the residential area of Feuerbacher Heide to the Bismarck Tower for another wonderful view of Stuttgart.
On the way down to the Killesberg tram stop, pass by the house where the industrial families Porsche and Moser once lived. The tour ends at the Killesberg tram stop.
• Tour East
Begin with a short walk through the castle garden then head over hundreds of steps to the Fair Galathea Statue and the Cannon House. From the Villa Reitzenstein, enjoy a wonderful view of the city and learn interesting facts about the people after whom the Stäffele steps are named.
On the way down, you'll see the Wilhelmspalais, the magnificent city residence of the last king of Württemberg. Your tour ends in the Academy Garden, which is located behind the New Castle.
• Tour South
Start at Marienplatz and soon climb numerous "Stäffele". Marvel at amazing city panoramas until you reach the Alte Weinsteige. From the highest point on the tour, you can see all of Stuttgart. Then, make your way back through a forest to the legendary tea house, where the tour ends.
• Tour West
Begin your exciting Stäffele tour of West Stuttgart at Marienplatz. From here, go up past the enchanted urban lapidarium and archaeological museum, then continue through the urban vineyard to the fabulous viewpoint on the Karlshöhe mountain. Here, you'll be rewarded for all your climbing with a wonderful view.
Next, follow the path up the steep Hasenbergsteig in the footsteps of Wilhelm II. Discover the legendary Alexandershäusle, and hear about the "Schwabtunnel," the first street and tram tunnel in the empire. Listen to many other amazing stories on the route through the west of Stuttgart. The tour concludes at Feuersee.
