2. Stockholm Archipelago: 1-Day Kayak Tour

Discover the Stockholm archipelago, just 45 minutes outside of Stockholm. Explore by kayak an environment formed of about 30,000 islands located in the calmness of the Baltic Sea where the surface of the water is overhung by domes made of rocks and trees creating a unique natural maze. Begin the tour, by meeting your guide at 9 AM in the South of Stockholm. Drive together to Dalarö, a charming little village, from where you'll embark on your kayak adventure. On the way, admire the magnificent little wooden red houses which have been discreetly built among the pines. Spend the entire day exploring different islands from the water. Stop on one of the deserted islands for a filling lunch cooked on an open fire. Take time here to rest, accompanied by the swell of the Baltic and the singing birds. At the end of the afternoon, paddle back towards Dalarö where you started from. Go around the other islands and get the opportunity to see other fantastic things on the more wild part of the archipelago. Keep your eyes peeled for circling sea eagles searching for prey. Stockholm Archipelago: Half-Day Kayaking and Fika Tour

3. Stockholm Archipelago: Half-Day Kayaking and Fika Tour

The adventure begins at Skärgårdens Kanotcenter, where you’ll meet your kayaking guide and take part in a short safety briefing. Your guide will help you to make some adjustments to the kayak if needed and will discuss the route. Once you’re familiar with the basic paddling and safety techniques, it's time to hop into your sea kayak and explore the archipelago from the perspective of the water. Follow your guide as you explore the beauty of Vaxholm and admire typical Swedish architecture. With its famous fortress that was used to defend Stockholm and traditional fishing cottages in the harbour, it's the perfect place to get the full archipelago experience. On the other side, there is one of Stockholm's largest nature reserves. While kayaking and exploring the islands from the water, listen to local stories about the area, which was once home to Vikings over 1000 years ago. Soak up the scenic views and feel immersed in the tranquil atmosphere of the reserve, which will leave you feeling as if you're a million miles from the stresses of the city, despite being just 30-minutes from Stockholm. Once you’ve worked up a bit of an appetite, find the perfect spot for a rest and enjoy a typical Swedish 'fika,' also known as a coffee break. You are also more than welcome to bring a swimsuit for a Baltic dip if you wish. After the break, head back onto the water and watch out for the reserve’s array of native wildlife including beavers and coastal birds. At the end of an unforgettable experience, it’s time to begin the journey back to the starting point, admiring the last of the views along the way.

Day 1: You will begin by traveling for 45-60 minutes to the Central Archipelago. The group will then leave the kayak station at around 10:30AM, assuming an easy paddling speed so that everyone can get used to their kayak. Following approximately 2 hours of paddling it will be time for your first lunch break on a small, secluded island which could have a beach and the opportunity to swim. You will stop for about 1.5 hours and prepare lunch on an open fire, after which the tour continues paddling for about 2 hours. On the way you will see bird life and stunning natural scenery, before taking a second break accompanied by some snacks to keep your energy levels up. When you’re ready, you’ll finish the last paddle for the day whilst looking out for the perfect wild camping location somewhere along the shoreline. From there you can enjoy the sunset and spend the evening next to the fire, a perfect ending of the day. Day 2: The following morning, breakfast will be ready at around 8:00AM. You can enjoy your breakfast whilst taking in some stunning views of the ocean, after which it will be time to pack the equipment and get back into your kayak. The morning usually offers the best kayaking conditions, throughout which your paddling will make you feel like you are kayaking on a giant lake. After around 2–3 hours of kayaking you will prepare lunch before taking a small hike to receive some stunning views of the area. Following that, prepare yourself for the final 2 hours of kayaking between the small islands. From Stockholm: 3-Day Stockholm Archipelago Kayak Tour

7. From Stockholm: 3-Day Stockholm Archipelago Kayak Tour

Day one: After going through all of the gear, maps and techniques we set out on our multiple day kayak tour. We start off in a sheltered bay, paddling between two cliffs to avoid head wind and waves to get the hang of it. We stay close to the shore, and after some hours it's time for lunch. After a short hike to a viewpoint, we can see many of the islands that we will visit during the following days. We continue paddling and move towards the island groups. Maybe we'll even spot some swimming deer! During late afternoon / early evening we make camp and enjoy the rhythmical sound of the sea, birds and the absence of everything else. We enjoy a campfire meal which we prepare together. Later we share stories, but not before taking out the kayaks one more time to experience the sunset from the water! Day two: Rise and shine for yet another day of adventure! After a healthy breakfast we eagerly set out once again. We cross a short stretch of open sea and arrive to yet another group of islands. The ever changing environment never seems to bore. On the way we meet swans, white tailed eagles and more curious birds. We pick any island for lunch and do the same in the evening if it's a three day kayak tour. We can fish, swim, nap or just hang around camp before hitting the sheets (or sleeping bags) once more. Day three: The 3-day trip means that we spend the 2nd day completely outdoors, something you don't experience on the 2-day trip: no transfers, meeting points, restaurant meals or hotels. Instead we wake up & go to sleep by the sound of the sea. We enjoy all of our meals in nature using different outdoor cooking techniques. Of course, we don't paddle the same way back but explore new areas instead, returning to the starting point from a different direction. Once we've unpacked our belongings we drop you off in Stockholm, and leave you with memories for a lifetime.

What people are saying about Stockholm Archipelago

Well organised activity. We felt safe the whole time and the guide shares a lot of history of Sweden during our activity. The clothing provided for the cold weather is perfect, and the guide is very helpful. We had a nice little fika break before we returned.

This was a truly amazing experience. Andy was an incredible guide. It was magical to glide through the archipelago in a kayak! The fika, icy dip and sauna were unique and wonderful!

Wonderful and detailed guided experience with Teresa and Andy with well prepared Fika and clean equipment

Winter kayaking in stockholm was super fun, super adventures and also super safe thanks to our guides.
