Full description

Explore various artifacts and artworks with a entry ticket to Stedelijk Museum. Enjoy your priority access and learn about modern and contemporary art.

Discover key art movements at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, also known as the most important museum of modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands.

Situated on Museumplein, where it first opened in 1895, it is a neighbor to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Having undergone extensive renovation, the historic Stedelijk building has been expanded with the addition of a futuristic new wing. The addition has been a huge hit with visitors since the facility’s reopening in 2012. Get priority access to a collection of 90,000 artifacts. Admire extraordinary works by world-renowned artists, including a great number of pieces by major 20th-century Dutch artists. The permanent collection is one of the most important collections of modern and contemporary art and design in the world. The most meaningful movements in both art and design are represented by (inter)national artists and designers who are helping to shape the changes of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

With well-known works together with lesser-known highlights by, amongst others, Vincent van Gogh, Marc Chagall, Piet Mondrian, Yayoi Kusama, Andy Warhol, Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock, Nicolaas Warb, Gerrit Rietveld, El Anatsui, Rineke Dijkstra, Danielle Dean, Sarah Zapata, Marlene Dumas, Simnikiwe Buhlungu, and Charley Toorop.

The collection, organized thematically and in a loose chronology, emphasizes that art and design develop alongside social movements and bear multiple histories that encompass diverse perspectives.

We really enjoyed the Stedelijk Museum! It will become one of our favorites. The museum provided free audio guide, but you should bring your own headphones (not supplied). Not only did we recognize many of the modern artists on the lower flow, but we were learned so much additionally about eco trends in art, fabrics, furniture etc. as well as being able touch and see many of the amazing products. We also enjoyed the many video displays on the upper floor. The museum itself is a piece of art inside and out. It is so unusual. The entrance floor had a black-light and multi-media series of rooms that were fascinating. We also noticed a hands on and "play" area for the little ones. The museum was not crowded. We spent 2 hours and probably could have spent more. Maybe it's because we had no expectations that the museum had such a great impact. We highly recommend!

Great collection of works on display; ranging from early seminal works to recent developments. Spent by 4 hours and could have happily been there longer but had tickets for another booking, my 11 year old daughter enjoyed the experience too, would recommend the audio tour for some helpful insights.

Visiting this museum, I was not sure what we would see or experience. It was easy going and interesting. The staff at the entrance were helpful and friendly. However, having a security guard follow us through the museum being the only other racially diverse visitors on the day was unnecessary and ruined the visit.
