Full description
From its very founding in 1703, the Peter and Paul Fortress (the original citadel of St. Petersburg) had been used as a prison. Ironically it housed a jail used by the imperial family to imprison political prisoners. Later, the Bolsheviks would use the prison for the same purpose.
Your knowledgeable and friendly guide will tell you numerous stories and legends about Peter I and Catherine the Great, rebels against the Tsarist regime and then the enemies of the state. On this tour you will have the unique opportunity to visit the Peter & Paul Cathedral, the symbol of the city of St Petersburg. Every single Romanov Tsar is buried here. Now Nicholas II and the entire last Imperial family is also buried here, and this is the best place to come with a guide to learn about the entire Romanov dynasty through their family tree.
