Raising bridges is a remarkable event to see, tickets are very easily and quickly provided via the GetYourGuide app. The only suggestion is, given that it is cold at night, it would be good to provide and offer visitors a blanket, for example, before the end of the ride it was very cold for me.

I would highly recommend using Get a Guide when visiting the Hermitage museum, particularly now with the covid protocols in place & numbers of tourists being allowed access into the Hermitage controlled & the routes to choose from. Our guide Tim was very knowledgable & an expert in his field. Before starting out tour he gave us some interesting background & history of the Winter Palace, Alexander Column & the General Staff Building. During our tour of the Hermitage Tim’s talked us through each room, highlighting important details & pointing interesting things to see, which if we were not on a guided tour would be missed, for example how the ceilings & inlaid floors mirror each other in the Throne Room. His art knowledge is vey good & he shared insights into the artists techniques, styles & what to look for in the paintings, which was very interesting.

  • Peterhof Palace and Gardens Half-Day Tour

    5. Peterhof Palace and Gardens Half-Day Tour

Commissioned by Peter the Great, Peterhof is the oldest of the Imperial residences of Russia. Today it is a park complex that includes the principle palace and a number of smaller palaces. The main Palace itself is the unique product of two centuries of work. The original design was worked on by Peter himself and was designed with the Palace of Versailles in mind. Today the palace contains a remarkable collection of paintings, sculptures, furniture and much more. Rooms dating back to Peter’s time can be found alongside golden shining baroque halls and calm and austere rooms from the Classical period. Peterhof is often referred to as the Russian Versailles. The idea of creating a residence to rival the luxury of the French Kings was Peter’s ambition and he personally chose the site where several underground water springs were located. Thanks to these underground springs, the amazing...

Visiting in February we didn't really need the skip-the-line part of this tour as there were no queues, but we did get the benefit of a private tour, as there were just two of us on the tour and the expertise and knowledge of our tour guide. We'd met our guide, Olga, the previous day during our visit to the Hermitage and were looking forward to the tour of Catherine's Palace with her. The Palace is beautiful, breath-taking and stunning. Again Olga's love and passion for art came across during the tour. Olga also pointed out buildings of interest on our journeys, both too and from the Palace. The journey takes about 40 minutes by car, longer by public transport. I booked a transfer as I didn't feel confident in travelling by public transport. After travelling around the centre of St. Petersburg by bus I would consider making my own way there if I were to visit again.

A truly fantastic tour for history and art lovers. One can enjoy lavishly decorated staircase and rooms, precious artefacts and get immersed into a great period of Russian history while walking along the rooms with portraits. Our knowledgeable guide Lida offered us a detailed explanation both for the facts and objects including but for literally any question we posed.
