Full description

Visit the Spanish Riding School of Vienna and observe the horses during their training. In the magnificent setting of the baroque Winter Riding Academy, the training offers an insight into the years of training of the Lipizzaners and their riders. The morning exercise of the horses is accompanied by classical Viennese music. The Training includes relaxation exercises, refining and perfecting movement, and strengthening certain muscles. The famous school jumps levade, courbette, and capriole, which are shown as part of the performances by the Spanish Riding School, are not practiced on a daily basis and can only sometimes be seen during the morning exercise. The white Lipizzaner stallions are put through their paces by their riders almost every day. The primary objective of the morning exercise is to maintain the horses’ athleticism and health, as well as to build up various muscle groups that are necessary for performing the exercises of the haute école.

We got tickets for the training session and the first half was amazing. I didn’t realise we had got standing only tickets but that was the only option when I opened the booking page. Try and get seats if you can it’s a long time to stand. Worth going definitely. You can’t take any photos while the horses are in the arena and the staff constantly rudely remind you of that! But so glad i went - it’s another box ticked

The show is unique and a must for Vienna tourists. We booked online and were offered seats (€16) and standing room (€14), we opted for the first variant (assumed to be more comfortable). The seats were in the 2nd gallery (above). Unfortunately, the wooden seats are so unsuitable (they are far too hard to sit on and when in use you can only see half of the show). Hence the recommendation: Be sure to take part, but be careful which seats you book for unlimited enjoyment.

Very nice location and event! Too bad you weren't allowed to take photos, but I could understand that. Many would then certainly take pictures with their mobile phones and uncontrolled flashes of lightning could frighten the horses. Seats on the gallery look into the hall from above and only have a view of 3/4 of the area - not so nice, but ok for the price.
