From Eilat: 2-Day Petra & Wadi Rum Tour with Camp Stay

3. From Eilat: 2-Day Petra & Wadi Rum Tour with Camp Stay

Petra is the most famous tourist site in Jordan today. Petra was once occupied by the Nabateans, and almost everything in Petra was constructed by them. Visiting Petra, you'll be able to see over 800 objects, including the famous treasury, temples, mourning houses, caves, and more. Wadi Rum is everything you'd expect of a quintessential desert: extreme in heat in the summer and freezing temperatures in the winter. It is violent and moody as the sun slices through the chiseled canyons at dawn or melts the division between rock and sand at dusk. It is exacting on the Bedouin who live in it and vengeful on those who ignore the dangers it presents. Experience its power and beauty with your expert guide. Your tour will begin with a pick up from your hotel in Eilat at 08:30 AM. After crossing the Arava border, you will drive to Wadi Musa Petra and tour the site. After the tour, you will eat lunch in Petra and drive to Wadi Rum and stay overnight at an authentic Bedouin camp. Along the way, you will learn all about the Nabataeans, their history, their art, gods, and the Bedouin way of life. Upgrade your experience in the desert to a 4-star tent with a private bathroom which includes a shower and a toilet in the tent.

Desert Jeep Adventure from Jerusalem

7. Desert Jeep Adventure from Jerusalem

In the morning, you will be picked up by jeep in Jerusalem and head towards the Judean Desert. As you approach the lowest point on earth, the descent will allow a panoramic view over the smooth hills and vast landscape. Your first stop is Mount Azazel, where according to tradition, a scapegoat carrying the sins of people was cast off a cliff every year. From there, you’ll advance further into off-road territory, passing many nomadic Bedouin tribes, their camps and animals. At an ancient water hole, you will learn about the importance and handling of these structures, considering the scarce water resources for desert farmers. Another short drive will take you to the magnificent Mar Saba monastery, rarely visited by many travelers due to its remoteness. Founded over 1,500 years ago, it is today considered one of the most beautiful monasteries in the world and inhabited by around twenty Greek Orthodox monks, who also use the surrounding rock caves for meditation. Pass Nabi Musa, believed by Muslims to be Moses’ tomb, stop for lunch and finally head to the refreshing springs of Ein Prat (subject to weather conditions). The cold, clear water seeps out of the rocks and forms pools and streams, ideal for a rejuvenating end of the tour. Dip in to rinse off the heat and dust of the day before returning to Jerusalem.

What people are saying about Southern District, Israel

The days in Jordan flew by and our amazing guide Ali made the tour unforgettable. He imparted his knowledge in a pleasant way and you could tell his 20 years of experience. I always felt that I was in good hands with him and the driver. The camp is in a fantastic location and the sunsets and starry sky were a dream. The tents and beds were comfortable and fit for purpose, the sanitary facilities were clean. I was very happy that it was still low season, so Petra and the camp were not as busy as expected. Wishes: Make a stop in the capital on the first day, after all you drive past it so close (possibly a viewpoint, omit the castle). On re-entering Israel to find a bus with a note from Abraham Tour and a bus driver who had been informed by Abraham Tours how many people to take. This small part just after the border was really badly organized.

This was an amazing trip. We had the best time. Our guide Kareem was lovely and really willing to do whatever it took to make everyone happy. Petra was awesome, the desert was beautiful and the tents were more than tents. They were air conditioned and better than we expected. The lunch was just a sack lunch with no protein so if you need something substantial then bring it with you. This was definitely worth doing. I highly recommend it.

was fun trip, definitely hot so drink more water and take. good to go with hiking shoes and try to put some long sleeve cotton t-shirts so won't burn . overall nice trip. Thank you to our guide

Excellent tour! Beautiful landscape, and great tour guides. Thank you Alex and Avi!

A great mostly off road tour of the Eilat mountains.
