Full description
Learn about life in the Roman Empire on a 2-hour guided tour of one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in southern Italy. Collect your ticket at the Tourist Office by Sorrento Train Station before taking a short train ride to Pompeii. Here, you will take a guided tour of the ruins of the Roman Republic town, buried by the ash of Mt. Vesuvius when it erupted in 79AD. Lost for hundreds of years, Pompeii has now regained its prominent role in the Campania region. Navigate the labyrinth of ruins, where it’s easy to get lost without the help of a map or knowledgeable guide. They will take you to the most significant ruins, including theaters, famous villas, public baths, a bakery with cooking utensils still on display, and the Forum. See the termopolia, and discover remarkably well preserved mosaics and frescoes. Feel the terror of the events of more than 2,000 years ago as you look at body casts of the citizens, frozen in time. Learn about everyday life in the city before it was buried. Then, transfer back to Sorrento by train.

My husband and I were staying in Sorrento and wanted to make sure we were able to visit Pompeii before we returned home. We booked this activity to simplify trying to figure out transportation, tickets, etc. Although the meeting point sent us down the street to a stop sign (the tour office is in the Sorrento train station) we still had a great experience. Our guide (Alfonso) was the funniest guide we have had in all of Italy. He really knew his stuff and made it entertaining at the same time. With Pompeii being so large (130 acres), we really were glad we booked a tour. We would have missed so many interest points and not learned as much if we attempted Pompeii on our own. Book the tour, your won't regret it.

Tour guide good - organization average to poor

Through the previous helpful rating comments I could tell more about this tour than the actual description of it. The description in my opinion should tell you that you are only picking up the tickets in Sorrento and that you then take the train by yourself. Arrived in Pompei we had to wait for 40min (they told us 20) for the tour to start. So I am not sure why you actually have to choose a time for it, because it anyway seems fairly random to me. They just wait until they have a bigger group together. And the group was big. Over 20 people. the most important thing though is, that the tour itself was really good. It was really at least 2 hours long (counting from the time you actually leave with the guide) and the tour guide was funny and knowledgeable. So at the end it was worthwhile.

Good tour but very big group

The tour was good and the guide was very knowledgeable but the group was much larger than I expected and therefore it was very hard to hear her a lot of the time. When the group is as large as this she needs some sort of microphone and we needed units with headphones. She was, however, very knowledgeable and friendly.
