Full description
Enjoy a full-day tour from Sorrento to the 2 towns that were destroyed by the dramatic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Departing at 08:15, you will head towards Naples and the short drive to Herculaneum. Upon arrival a local guide will be waiting to help you pay your entrance fees. Then, view the ruins from above, before a 1-hour tour of the buildings and streets, superbly preserved by the volcanic mud that rained down on the city. See original timbers and clay pots, stored as they would have been at the time of the eruption of Vesuvius. Go to the grand house and courtyard of the House of the Argus, dwarfed by the opposite hotel. Other highlights include the well-preserved frescoes and mosaics of the public baths, and a house of carbonized furniture with an intact marital bed. It’s believed that many of the town’s inhabitants managed to flee just in time. Admire the frescoed floor of the House of Neptune, including portraits of the owners and their garden flowers and vegetables immortalized in dazzling mosaics. Discover shops and a city gymnasium, all brought to life by the experienced guides. After some free time for coffee, drive to Pompeii, where your guide will lead you to the main features of the ancient city, including the public baths, city bakeries, and even a brothel. The Roman city remains one the most stunning archaeological sites on the Italian peninsula, and one of the most visited ruins in the world. Experience it much as it existed more than 2,000 years ago, as you wander through perfect stone-paved streets, houses, temples, and the Forum.

    Great trip!

We learnt so much more about Pompeii and Herculaneum with our guide Laura than we would’ve done had we visited independently. She was brilliant at sharing information, funny and even stopped other visitors from pushing in queues! Overall, the day was really worth the money. Although, it should be noted that children and EU citizens aged between 18-24 are allowed discounted entry to both visits - obviously this is not possible if you’ve paid for the tickets in the bundle like we did. Other members of the visit had not so worth enquiring about. I’d definitely recommend this tour with Laura as she made the day!

Great day, informative and a must do when in the area

We arrived at Pompei early which was great - we got there before most of the crowds. Our guide, Laura, was great - really knowledgeable and highlighted all the key parts of the site educating us about the history as well. Would also recommend this tour as it was definitely worth visiting Herculaneum, which was very different to Pompei. We had pre paid the entrance fees but most people on the tour hadn’t - make sure you bring cash for this! Laura had a great temperament and did a really good job - she made the tour.

Enough to get an idea. Would recommend.

There is so much to see it is not possible to see everything during that tour but you will be able to see how tall was Pompeii and how well preserved is Herculanum. The restaurant they chose is good, price is cheap and service is fast. You will be at a table with strangers but for an hour max and you can make new friends. But you definitely have to see both cities to revive the era and imagine how it was.
