Full description
A 2-hour drive from Sofia will take you to the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s second largest city and one of its oldest towns. Within 2-3 hours of walking along the city, you will discover the history and culture behind a 7000-year old settlement, written by the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Bulgarian civilizations. You can enjoy sightseeing in the Old Town with its museums, historical monuments, revival period houses, lined with souvenir shops cobbled streets or get impressed by the rich Ethnographical Museum and the ancient Roman Theater. Feel the atmosphere of this artistic and trades center and enjoy a lunch at the local restaurants. Next stop on your way back is the charming town of Koprivshtitsa with its fascinating history and authentic 19th-century architecture. Spend the rest of the day in the leisure of this small and picturesque city situated in central Bulgaria, spread amongst the slopes of the Sredna Gora Mountains, that carries a specific spirit of tranquillity and eternity. Once a scene of battles for the liberation of Bulgaria, now the city is turned into a museum of the Revival Period of Bulgaria. Here you can visit the homes of some of the most eminent Bulgarians, writers and rebels, admire the vast collections of ethnographical treasures, including ancient weapons, intricate national costumes and stunning jewellery.

Don’t pass up the opportunity to take this tour. It’s well worth your time to see the wonders of Plovdiv. Our guide shared a wealth of knowledge along the way and was well versed in the historical context throughout the day. Excellent!!highly recommend

Both towns are so beautiful and rich in history. Our guide, Lachezar Gudev, is knowledgable and helpful with strong command of English. He filled us with many insights during the journey. Unfortunately, time passes too quickly and the time spent in Plovdiv was too short. Highly recommend to stay a night in Plovdiv to enjoy the performance.

Phillip is a very informative guide providing historical details about the old towns for Plovdiv and Koprivshtitsa. There were also details provided about poets and opera singers too which provided cultural knowledge thst is not present on other tours. Phillip walked the entire route with the tour and provided that flexibility to view other sights independently and lrovided alternatives for sightseeing within the areas. He also provided reasonably priced lunchtime reservations, was happy to answer questions and to take photos. It is a long day with cobbled paths and so bring sturdy shows and pack a rainmaker in case it rains. There was also no hard sell to go into souvenir shops or any pressure to provide tips to the guide and driver, which was refreshing. Phillip is very passionate about teaching others about Bulgaria and a good guide to be with.
