4. Piran: Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle

Your tour will begin with Postojna Cave, one of the best-known caves in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world’s largest karst monuments. This is the only place in the world where the underground landscape can be traversed on an electric train and where you can meet this underground kingdom’s most famous inhabitant, the proteus (olm), up close. From here the tour extends to the Predjama Castle which reigns over the surrounding area, not far from the Postojna Cave, in the idyllic village of Predjama. This picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable castle has been perched in the middle of a vertical 123-meter high cliff for more than 800 years. Its romantic appeal is further emphasized by the idyllic Lokva River, which disappears into the underground world deep below the castle. As the only preserved cave castle in Europe, the Predjama Castle offers a unique insight into the building techniques and resourcefulness of people in the Middle Ages, who were looking for and found a safe harbor for themselves right at the entrance of the cave. During a siege that took place in the 15th century, the castle provided a refuge for its best known and most notorious owner, Erazem of Predjama. The legend of the courageous robber baron Erazem, who remained undefeated until one of his servants betrayed him, is still in people’s minds, inspiring and alluring as ever. Highly recommended. Lakes Bled and Bohinj are both spectacular and well worth a visit. We were lucky enough to have great weather for our trip but it would have been lovely even in the rain. Our guide, Primoz, was fantastic - incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. He personalized the tour to our interests and made sure that we had a great time.

Primoz was an excellent guide. You could see his knowledge and passion about Slovenia. He took us to the waterfall even if it wasnt on the plan for the day, just because i asked him to!! I really appreciate that!

Really great tour with only a small group. Our tour guide Eva was really nice and easy to talk to and gave a lot of very useful information.

Great trip, there were only 3 of us and the guide was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this experience!

Had a lovely time enjoying the natural beauty of Slovenia. Can heartily recommend to other travelers.
