Climb aboard your boat and set off to see the magnificent 18th-century fortress of Lesendro while admiring the breathtaking scenery around you. Cruise along the Moraca River, a bird reserve with up to 15 different species. Depending on the time of year, you'll spot native birds such as cormorants, seagulls, and if you're lucky, even pelicans.  Cruise along the narrow channels of the Skadar Lake and gaze in awe at the carpets of beautiful lily flowers and reeds. This area is often called the safari part of the lake because it resembles wild passages in old forests. If you are lucky, you will have the chance to see some nests with baby birds in it. Discover the three beautiful islands of Small Cakovica, Big Cakovica, and Lipovnjak and continue through a similar small channel leading you to Odrinska Gora, the home of the Monastery Kom. Listen to the tales and stories about its past and get acquainted with the lifestyle of the monks residing here. Marvel at the artworks inside the monastery and take time to explore this hidden island gem.  Then, board your boat again, returning to the meeting point. On the way back, your captain will take an alternate route so you can admire the three islands from the other side. You'll also have the chance to go for a swim in the refreshing waters of the lake. Discover the beauty of Skadar Lake on a sightseeing boat trip. Depart from the pier from the village of Virpazar and find yourself on the open water. Admire the views of the mountain ranges far away in Albania, and Vranjina, the nearest island rising defiantly from the fresh waters of one of the largest lakes in southern Europe. Go left under the nearby bridge and discover Lesendro, an 18th-century fortress. As you approach this beautiful fortification, observe amazing birds dry their wings on top of the fortress's walls. Begin your journey in Virpazar, the tiny fishing village located in the heart of Skadar Lake. Leave its pier, gliding along a narrow river channel fringed by reeds and willows. Exit the channel and hit the deep-blue waters of Skadar Lake. Admire views of mountains far away in Albania and the island Vranjina, proudly standing against the largest lake in Southern Europe. Turn left, and go under the bridge Tanki rt. See the endless fields of water chestnuts enshrouding the lake. Discover the 18th-century fortress Lesendro which still hides the secret of Njegoš's eternal sorrow. Spy birds lined up along the remains of the walls. Admire the three nearby islets and the view they hide - white and yellow water lily flowers and their large, floating, dark green leaves. Pass through the heart of the fjord Pavlova strana and reach the old fisherman's village called Rijeka Crnojevića. Uncover the village's historical significance, authentic architecture, and beautiful natural environment. Have the chance to try delicious Montenegrin specialties. Take your time and explore this beautiful tiny townlet. After one hour, climb your boat again and head back to Virpazar. After some time, you will stop at a place surrounded by open water and the rough Montenegrin coast, and you will have extra time to go swimming.

5. Virpazar: Kayak Rental for National Park Skadar Lake

Upon your arrival someone from the team will provide you all of the information necessary for you to do this experience safely. You start at the center of Virpazar. First you will paddle through a small channel that leads you to the open lake. Next, you aim for the bridge that is situated on your left side. You will go under it. After passing the bridge, on your right side you will see a fortress - Lesendro. If you enjoy watching the birds you should paddle around the fortress which will lead you inside the beginning of river Morača which is considered as an bird reserve. You proceed your experience to the three islands that you have already seen, that are in the middle of the lake. You will aim for the first one and make a circle around it, from right to left side of it. You will have the opportunity to go through the most beautiful part of the lake - small channel that is surrounded by water lillies and reeds covering the water. When on the other side of the island, looking at the shore, you will see few wild beaches and a private one. If you want to take a break and swim to refresh yourself, any of these beaches is the perfect spot. After your brake you just go back under the bridge, aiming for the entrance to the channel leading you back to Virpazar.

High in mountains next to Niksic, you'll find the Monastery of Ostrog, the biggest Montenegrin pilgrimage site built in 17th-century where you will find the remains of St. Vasilije Ostroski. The holy relics of Saint Basil can be found in the lower church of the upper monastery. Ostrog Monastery was built by natural and human interaction, carved almost in its entirety in a vertically positioned mountain cliff. There is not much written evidence about the process and time of construction, but looking at it now, it is a really amazing piece of human work difficult to imagine being done even today with modern technology. This monastery, carved in the mountains, is high above Bjelopavlici plain. The most impressive part of the monastery is Upper Ostog where two small churches are built, upper small church dedicated to Saint Cross and lower dedicated to the Presentation of Mary. This sanctuary is one of the most visited orthodox pilgrimage sites in the world. It is a spiritual center of Montenegro and also a place for pilgrims to gather of various faiths and religions of the world. This breathtaking destination will fill your soul with high elevated feelings of devotion and reverence to God. After the monastery visit, go to Rijeka Crnojevic, for sure the most attractive part of Skadar Lake National Park. While visiting Rijeka Crnojevic, you will have many photo opportunities as well as a lunch break, a great opportunity to taste the most delicious fish soup, fish and wine. During the 19th and early 20th-century, Rijeka Crnojevic was the biggest Montenegrin port and leading shopping center. Leave the dock in Virpazar through a small and narrow river enveloped with reeds and willows, and you will find yourself at the open lake. Examine the lake while marvelling at its size and observing the distant mountains in Albania. Continue your journey left, under a nearby bridge and discover Lesendro, an 18th-century fortress, gliding through the fields of water chestnuts – kasaronje. Have your breath taken away by the view hidden behind the three islets. As you continue gazing at the proud Montenegrin coast, you will find yourself in a small fishermen's village named Karuč. Like any other village on Skadar Lake, Karuč is tiny - yet, it is a giant in terms of history and nature. In this hidden gem of Skadar Lake, you can feel the spirit of past times and enjoy the mesmerizing environment. Karuč was the village from where fishermen used to go fishing, as the Karuč Eye was known for the abundance of bleak. There are still ruins of the houses that the fishermen were using to store their nets and other equipment. You will have around one hour to explore the village. After that, we will return to Virpazar. Meanwhile, expect a stop for swimming. Don't forget to pack your swimsuits because you do not want to miss diving inside the fresh waters of Skadar Lake.

The trip met our expectations 100%. The lady at the information desk informed us in detail (English fluently) about the trip plan - where we are going and what we will see. The captain was very nice and smiling, there was refreshment (tasty pancakes) and wine, the captain, after welcoming him, assured him that he would answer all questions about the cruise, and it was like that. The trip lasted about 3 hours 15 minutes. There was no bathing in the lake, because it was raining for several days and there were no people willing to do so, but I think that if during a few-minute stop in the middle of the lake someone would decide, it would not be a problem :) We only regret that the weather was uninteresting :)

The boat trip was canceled due to bad weather. Very good communication with the local organization via whattsapp who kept us informed whether or not it could go on the next day. Wonderful boat trip in a fantastic nature. Fritters, wine and water provided for everyone and more than enough. Recommended!

The trip on the lake was lovely and the guide funny and chatty. He slowed down in places where there was something to sea. It was late summer so we didn’t swim. We all enjoyed the wine. Pity there were very few birds on the lake perhaps because of the time of year or time of day?

Everything went smoothly, I recommend the trip to everyone.
