The Castle of the Moors was classified as a National Monument in 1910 and it also forms part of the Sintra Cultural Landscape classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Site in 1995. It soars 412 m above sea level and looms high above the surrounding forest.  The 10th-century Moorish castle’s dizzying ramparts stretch across the mountain ridges and past moss-clad boulders the size of small buses. The best walking route here from Sintra-Vila is not along the main road but the quicker, partly off-road route via Rua Marechal Saldanha. The steep trail is around 2 km, but quiet and rewarding.  Once you reach the castle, the views over Sintra’s palace-dotted hill, across to the glittering Atlantic are breathtaking. Along the walkways, you can admire the unique landscape that in the foreground features Sintra town and its town hall, the Palace of Pena and the hills. In the background, admire the extensive plain running northwards and the Atlantic Ocean.

You then head down to Sintra to enjoy some free time to shop or explore the historical center. You will start your day at the front door of your hotel, where you will be greeted by your guide before traveling to Sintra in a comfortable 9-seater van. You will then have the opportunity to visit the mysterious and romantic town of Sintra, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Once there, you can choose to visit one of the following monuments: - the Pena Palace (the best example of the Romanticism style in Portugal) - the Sintra National Palace (a Medieval royal residence) - the Monserrate's Park and Palace (an eclectic place where you can explore romantic gardens with exotic species) - the Capuchos Convent (known for its extreme bareness of its architectural and decorative elements) - the Moors Castle (a fortress located on the top of a hill) - the Regaleira Estate (one of the most magical views one can find in Sintra) In any case, you will be accompanied by your guide, who will provide you with full explanations about the sites. You will then have time to explore the center of the town and have lunch. You can ask your guide for recommendations of restaurants, before taking some time to stroll around the narrow streets of Sintra. Following lunch, it will be time to go to Roca Cape, the westernmost point of Continental Europe. Later, you will head to Cascais, a lovely town by the sea with an old fishing tradition. Here you will have time to see the town center, as well as the entire bay area. Before returning to Lisbon, you can take the chance to drive by Estoril, which used to be a place of refuge during World War II. To conclude your tour, you will go back to Lisbon by the "marginal", a road which connects Cascais to Lisbon and runs along the coast.

Experience an unforgettable afternoon as you head north from Lisbon to the UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape of Sintra. Admire the Royal Palace, the best preserved medieval palace in Portugal. Located in Sintra Village itself, the Royal Palace was inhabited continuously from the 15th century through the late 19th century, and was the summer playground of Portuguese royalty. You'll quickly identify the palace's hallmark conical chimneys, and appreciate the rich collection of azulejos, or glazed tiles. As with the rest of Portugal, Sintra takes its sweets very seriously. Follow the crowd up a narrow nearby street to Piriquita. Since 1862, this popular confectioner and café has served up sumptuous cakes and pastries. The feast of the senses continues as we pass through the lush gardens of Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais, making our way to Cabo da Roca (from 1st March to 31st October), the westernmost point in continental Europe. Then soak in ocean sights as we journey along the coast, passing Guincho Beach, a windsurfing favorite, and Boca do Inferno, a natural grotto created by the sea. Upon reaching Cascais, you'll enjoy the panoramic view overlooking the bay. Then we'll return through Estoril, 'the Protuguese Riviera', with Europe's largest casino and its beautiful gardens.
