The monuments are arranged in a reasonably compact garden setting and their development is easier to follow. Afterwards, you will arrive to a local restaurant for lunch, before exploring the wondrous Rock Fortress of Sigirya. This place is famous for its toadstool of golden-hued granite, protruding into the searing blue sky from a hot, flat wilderness of scrubland, which is transformed in the rainy season to a water garden. • From Colombo: All Inclusive Sigiriya and Dambulla Tour

    10. From Colombo: All Inclusive Sigiriya and Dambulla Tour

Begin your 14-hour tour with an early-morning drive to Sigiriya. When you arrive, climb the Sigiriya Rock fortress, considered to be the 8th Wonder of the World. In the 5th century, King Kashyapa built a palace atop the rock. Sigiriya commemorates some of the turbulence of Sri Lanka’s history. Stop to enjoy a restaurant lunch before heading to Dambulla. Visit the UNESCO-listed cave temple built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. It is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of 5 caves features more than 2,000 square meters of painted walls and ceilings. See 150 images of the Buddha, of which the largest is a 14-meter-high image carved out of the rock.

The journey was very long as expected. The negative points of it is that the driver kept stopping in different places for us to see (he must have deals with these places) such as spice garden which was nice but they want tips and some gems store... which I didnt want to stop nor buy gems but he insisted and people were pushing us to buy. and if you dont buy or give them little tips they dont like it and treat you differently on the way out. I am certain tha the driver gets his cut from it, but surely they should ask the customer first if they want any stop to meet places or not. because of these stops (total of 3) we spent almost 20 hours out and got home so late and knackered. Sigiriya on the other hand is an amazing place! Like no words to describe how amazing it is. But again, the tour guide that is included in the package wanted tips as well and not in their currency, but in £ or $. Also water was included but was given only ONE bottle for the whole day and had to pay drinks

What people are saying about Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

Great park to get away from crowds and the roads are a dream after the west side of the island. For the first couple of hours we saw deer, buffalo, monitor lizard and great birds. It was a beautiful drive. When we saw the elephants it made it super special. The first two were at a distance , the next two right up close - really close! Then we came across a herd of mothers and babies feeding. It was magical. Very uncommercial if that’s a word. Guides are very keen to please but have limited English . A great trip

Very nice day tour. The temple in Dambulla is very worth seeing. The Löwenfels is also worth a visit, but admission is expensive. My driver tried very hard and explained a lot. He also stopped at many vantage points and responded to individual requests.

CJ was a fantastic, knowledgeable guide who patiently answered all my questions. He went out of his way to ensure my comfort and convienience. The trek up to the top was absolutely worth it! One of my highlights in Sri Lanka.

This is a must do activity in Sri Lanka. Amazing view of endless nature in Sigiriya, but also a lot of other small activities on the way there and back.

great day, had a very knowledgable driver, great food and learned a lot about the people and the country.
